That makes 28 players we've had up there in the four seasons (3.5 technically) since I took over. Which is nice. Didn't win the 70+ waiver claim on the 15 POT pitcher last night, but it happens. |

Now that is a game worthy of me writing up a press release. ^.^ Updated Friday, November 25 2016 @ 3:04:15 pm PST |

I still think he represents a defensive upgrade at SS over my current options, even with the left handed penalty, and I just hope he can continue to get on base against righties. He will exclusively platoon at SS against righties since my SS last season batted ~.210 against them, so he should be better than that... still trying to figure out what to do versus lefties since my SS last season was even worse against them. In other words, even if he is the worst 16 imaginable, he still represents both an offensive and a defensive upgrade over my current SS, so I'll take him. |

I'd feel comfortable playing him against lefties. Sexton is definitely by far the better hitter. I actually think you may be surprised by Izquierdo's production in the future. His terrible bat control certainly limits him, but I could see him OPSing .700+ in the future, which would be fine considering he has a gold glove defensive build. |

I was more bullish on Izquierdo before last season's black hole offensive performance (note: around the all-star break he was actually batting around .100 so his final numbers actually reflect a decent second half). A lot is batted around about which would be better, but I intend to find out...

MukilteoMike Joined: 08/09/2014 Posts: 3294 Inactive | I had one roster spot open going into last night's claims and had three guys I wanted. The top SI guys were desperate attempts to help my horrible pitching staff right now. Both had low claim numbers, including one with just 3. My third claim was on a high schooler with 39 claims that just got rejected by his drafting team. I liked him quite a bit, so was considering making another cut to ensure I had space for him. In the end, I talked myself out of it figuring there wasn't much chance of me hitting him or the others. I watched the claims live. Caputo with 13 to Pomono. Watch, I'm going to land the silly expensive Marini. He only has 3 claims. Here we go! Nope. El Monte's shelling out the serious dough. Dang, I really need a pitcher. Tick tock tick tock. What the heck?! Boom! I land the super slow Villanueva with 39 claims! He projects to be the best bat by far for me from my minor leaguers. I sure wish I could actually see him play. I'd love to see him hit a liner in the gap and pathetically try to get to second. 6 speed, 4 range. What's his primary position? Shortstop. Ha! Right. You're moving over to the hot corner, Emiliano. |

They were both infield force outs with the bases loaded, but it was still neat none the less! EDIT: Both fielders who threw out the runners at the plate are rated "outstanding in the field." He looks like a LHP that's going to send balls over the wall far too often, like almost every lefty I've ever had. However, I'm hoping for some good karma. He was released by Everett, which is a line drive from my home. And even better, his birthplace is Mililani Town, Hawaii. Surely claiming a guy from the Cup's victory town the same day they win it all has to bring him good luck, right?

If you don’t feel like clicking, he literally pitched a complete game-and-a-half — fourteen innings worth of refusing to give up the ball. It’s hard to get this kind of game from guys still in a pennant race, let alone after clinching the division. And then Rodriguez followed that up with a four-hit complete game shutout. The bullpen might be getting bored, but at least they should be nice and fresh for the last two series.

Team rank up to a franchise best #65 overall! What to do next? How about firing your manager?!? Was tough to let Leo go, but I've really noticed some of my young pitchers either struggling in their development or hitting the very bottom of their POT range. Don't like negatives in reports, but he was one of the best (and youngest) managers around (and quickly found a new team). But from Leo to Lloyd we go. Was quite a shock to see a manager of that caliber available this morning so jumped all over it. Can only go wrong from here! |

Davenport comes in to score. Vernon comes in to score. MacDonald is hit by the pitch. Takata strikes out. Lake Oswego 3, Independence 0 That's right, Ralph. That's what I like to see! You show him! Now everybody knows what's going to happen when you give up two singles and a dinger after two outs! |

Hopper didn't hit it off with Falcons management during last year's acquisition and he saw some time in the bullpen in 2041. Reevaluating the roster before 2042, his talent stood out and the two parties were able to make amends. It's been a glorious ride for Chris in 2042! Lo and behold, I noticed he threw out all four of the opponents' attempted base stealers in the game. On further inspection, the speed of those four runners was 18, 18, 17, and 15. Not a bad day behind the plate! |

While being sought over like that can get to some young talent, Quincy got right to work in AAA, making 7 solid starts there before getting his call up. What happened next was nothing short of sensational: 9-5 record, 151.2 IP, 3.92 ERA, 1.457 WHIP, and 94:68 K:BB ratio. And he's shown a tendency to get the much coveted ground ball, which will help with the occasional walk he'll give up with that small "control" blemish on his otherwise glowing scouting report. What's more, all of those numbers were trending in the right direction the second half of the year. What started as a "Let's see if we can get this guy a few spot starts" approach turned into "My my my, what do we have here?!?". Mr. Hale packed on no less than 22 SI in his rookie season, and we look forward to seeing what this RPOTY can do in his Sophomore season! After all of this hoopla, the word around VI.24 heading into 2043 is that Mr. Hale is going to be randomly selected to be part of Broken Bat's new PED Testing Program! I've had him set on "++" steal the whole time and his success rate is good, but it's up to Wendell to get his timing down and start pulling the trigger a bit more. I pulled up all NP's including those under contract and ranked them by SI. I knew he was good but didn't realize he's like top 30 all active players good. It's going to be one heck of a payday whenever he starts making salary demands so I'm saving my nickels now. I want him to be a lifetime Falcon but you know how baseball is today. If he comes in with Scott Boras as his agent I'll know he's got one foot out the door. |

I guess it’s because I like to crow more than I like to vent, but I’ll sidestep the Falcons recent plunge after being eliminated from cup play and prop up our Ace chris hopper for his 2nd complete game performance. They both occurred in his last 3 starts too. He’s sitting at 9-3 on the season and he’s clearly trying to lock down his 4th overall all star appearance, which would also be his 3rd in a row. Granted, it's only minor league data that continues to blow my mind, but he's an enigma to me. He's now had a full year in the minors, including AAA now. His pitching skills are 8-6-9-3 for a 56 SI total. That's low for the average AA player and, as I stated, he's been throwing AAA this season. Despite his 3 control, he has only walked 49 batters in 127 innings. That's not good, obviously, but it's fantastic for 3 control. That's about the only bad thing about him. ERA 2.33, BAA .194, 1.136 WHIP. I have no idea what I'm supposed to think about the guy. He's only an 11 potential, but he is destroying down on the farm. |

Grasso was great at the top level for more than a decade despite pitching his whole career in the 11 pot band of the SI spectrum. Whether it's due to under/over scouting, hidden variables, or just statistical anolomy - it's the guys like that, rather than the 120 SI monsters, that really make this game interesting. |

Calvin Ellis comes back home for likely his final season in Broken Bat: https://brokenbat.org/player/161784/L Underdeveloped at age 24 in 2036, Corvallis moved on from Oregon-native Ellis. But he was given a chance by a couple of owners (technically same team since age 25 but ownership has changed often) and carved out a respectable career. We picked him up as a two-claimer. May not get much leash, but would be fun for him to have a decent season in relief and end his career back where it started more than 10 years later. |

We are a strong team and have some star players, but it’s definitely a team wide effort too, especially pitching. I hope we can keep it up down the stretch! Kelvin Clifton is probably my savviest pick up this season. An old falcon draft pick from darn near the Paleolithic era, I noticed he was available this year as a 34 YO and decided to fork up the money for him. He’s been pretty serviceable at the round robbin position I like to call 2B. |

Started this season, had a great RD, in the neighborhood of +50; but I was 15-20 games under .500.. And then, I found this guy.. http://brokenbat.org/manager/3622 He has been fantastic for me.. Making the right pitching moves, getting my defensive alignments in better shape, and just.. kicking ass for me over the second half of the season.. I have high hopes this guy can help me move up some levels over the next 4-5 seasons.. Anyway, just wanted to put this in The Crowing Thread, I. thought it was an appropriate place. good luck to all!! |

In addition, a player who entered the Vikings farm system on a waiver claim (with just one other team submitting a claim) just got named all-league at 2B! Caudill had three bad seasons, but finally put it together at age 28. Two other all-leagues in Bouchard and Zelaya, for Bouchard that's his first and for Zelaya that's his 2nd, despite having a down year. |

Best run differential since 2025. Highest team ranking since records began (Ranked 422nd, yay!) Highest team rating since 2021 (0.57 below that). I really benefitted from inheriting a really good developing group of pitchers, but hey, that I still ran a plus and can now up the income in LL5 is flipping great! Considering I got a team which at the start of 2047 was at -10 Million, getting to + 34 Mil now is fantastic. Just hope I don't run out of steam too quick. |

As is currently, if I draft this, I'm like "yeah, not messing with that" and drop him. Strangely enough, Arlington gave him multiple shots, however, and I saw this and said, "eh, ok, I'll roll the dice, I occasionally see these stamina-only guys work out." And then he proceeded to continue to do well in MR. I dunno'. Would he get squashed in II or Legends? Probably, but he's been a true oddity. My belief there's a back-end modifier (no strong evidence to support it, however) every season that positively or negatively modifies performance leads me to believe this season he rolled high on the random seasonal modifier. EDIT: WoOt! Bonds won an All-League! Also, props to Vargas and Hernandez this season! Let's go, Ravens! Updated Friday, October 7 2022 @ 7:07:40 am PDT |

Set in strongest lineup instead of the cup youngsters. Get two shutouts two end the series. Make it into the knockout of the cup by a margin of 8 in RD. Oh yeah, it's all coming together. |

He needs another 127 to make it to #1 overall, which is very doubtful at 39 years old and the wheels clearly falling off. However, to paraphrase world renowned racecar driver Ricky Bobby: "With the advancements in modern medicine and my high level of income, who knows?!?" |

His work for Homestead doesn't count. I'm not sure he made it to 3000 ABs with Haverhill tho. I think the AB requirement is what causes the most noise. Eg., on Waterloo's list: #9 Tate, .277 (3300 ABs) #10 Huffman, .292 (2900 ABs) #11 Hall, .320 (2600 ABs) #12 Pennington, .274 (4100 ABs). Why the algorithm decided to slot Huffman and Hall in between these 2 is mysterious. I get earlier in BB history it was hard finding guys with 3000 ABs. Not so now. Maybe the algorithm should be changed to make 3000 a hard minimum now. Edit: I missed Hall initially. Updated Saturday, June 10 2023 @ 8:44:44 am PDT |

Really the .311 probably shouldn't be the number listed. What if the player hit a career .380 AVG, but after you picked him up as a 34 year old he had two seasons of .270 ball? Does he even show on the list? The list is quite disjointed right now. Does it want to be a list of player career numbers? Or team performance numbers? Needs to choose one and stay with it.

It's the AB problem I mentioned. Zhang has 2757 ABs with Haverhill - below the 3000 minimum for the list. So he got slotted between 2 guys who had 3000+ ABs that are in numerical order. I don't quite follow your example. Is this what you are saying? Team A: 15 seasons, .380 Team B: 2 seasons, .270 If so, he should be on Team A's list, but not Team B's list. I think it works the way it should. BA shouldn't function differently from the counting stats like hits and HRs. And it wouldn't make sense to use counting stats accumulated with a different team for your team totals. |

Nice work gang. Shame that we're still the second-lowest scoring team in the league, but hey, who needs offense, I guess. |

Thought he could be a solid backup 1B before later realizing he could fill my need at 3b. Went up to 13 potential the year after I picked him up and Bowie looks to become a solid 3b in our system. http://brokenbat.org/player/325732/M What a steal! |

We’ve had some tight ball games, and thankfully we’ve had a great closer. http://brokenbat.org/player/337465 13 games, 13 innings, 13 saves. Oh, and 0 runs allowed. Wait, he’s now out for 11 days. |
