Bit of an awkward build isn't he, Jason? Looks like a solid defensive CF. Not a particularly exciting one, but serviceable for sure.

Looking like this a bullpen building draft so far in Novi. Added a SET or closer to the set today: http://brokenbat.org/player/140070

FINALLY, after 7 seasons of drafting, we found our future shortstop. Such a relief.

Exactly. Although if he could be a .270 or so hitter he will be a great number 9 hitter with that speed. Maybe a lead off hitter against RHP if he hits for good ave.

Drafted from the revamped Asian pool for the first time, and I am actually pretty happy with Okamoto. Haven't had a RHB CF since I started playing; I've been running out Doyle against both righties and lefties, but he never developed a hit tool. Nice to have a CF I can just plug in to the lineup who should (on paper at least) be able to hit.

Got a 14 pot, but his build is not very exciting. I don't really like those high range, mediocre arm types. His fielding won't be enough to play 2B, so I'm guessing a LF here, but I generally prefer stronger arms even for a LF.

I'll balance out all the goodness with my C&R 11 POT.

Had three goods overall, and the two good pitchers had "starting pitcher stamina" and "exceptional breaking ball, below average control, starting stamina", neither of which appealed.

In retrospect I maybe shouldn't have chosen college, have a lot of players that age already.

Pulled a 13 POT out of college. A bit behind the curve, but certainly an addition down on the farm.

I got a good hitting, decent slugging 24 year old Asian today. A decent pick, but I don't know how long he'll stay.

I went down to the High Schools desperately searching for a pitching prospect. They all had negative control comments, so I ended up with Johnnie Boyle.

He comes advertised as an OF, but as a southpaw with good fielding and no arm, does he look like a prototypical 1b to anybody else? He's actually more advanced SI-wise than the 1B above him in A Ball, and younger.

@GrizzlyDan - looks like a 4th OF/backup 1B to me.

This is "good" potential? http://brokenbat.org/player/140360 Ugh. Catch and release. Should have gone with the Good potential SS with below average fielding.

@Benchwarmer- I see your "good" 11 potential pitcher and raise you a "good" 10 potential hitter!

Saw my first "very good" in the pull since round 4 of 2027. Of course, I'm sure it's a 13-pot guy, right? After all, that one was... (I don't think I've seen anything above 13 since we went to 10 per pull)

Surprise! it's a future star

Got a 16-year-old on the Latin American route - should nicely project to be a 2B! 13 POT.

I pulled someone I already forgot. Well, at least I have a roster space to claim waivers again.

@Dcm, he looks like someone who could do alright in LL V or VI, but any higher than that not so much.

@ESac - Saying that's your best draft pick this year still isn't saying much for him! IMO it looks like you're drafting for need, or for position. In the early rounds of the draft particularly, and pretty much all the way through to be honest, you need to be picking BPA: Best Player Available.

Always look for the potential on draft prospects: very good > good > average > no report.

There are still no guarantees (see my post in the 2029 Round 1 thread yesterday) but you can at least increase your odds by following those rules.

Considering he has good overall potential, he may very well have appeared to be the best available.

Also, drafting for need isn't that bad of an idea in some cases at least when multiple players that could be good are available and one does fit a need. It's not like getting another player in a position that you're stacked on helps you that much. You can't trade him for a someone that does fill that hole.
