Haven't had a RHB CF since I started playing; I've been running out Doyle against both righties and lefties, but he never developed a hit tool. Nice to have a CF I can just plug in to the lineup who should (on paper at least) be able to hit. | ||

Had three goods overall, and the two good pitchers had "starting pitcher stamina" and "exceptional breaking ball, below average control, starting stamina", neither of which appealed. In retrospect I maybe shouldn't have chosen college, have a lot of players that age already. |

GrizzlyDan Joined: 06/30/2016 Posts: 199 Atlanta Braves IV.2 | I went down to the High Schools desperately searching for a pitching prospect. They all had negative control comments, so I ended up with Johnnie Boyle. He comes advertised as an OF, but as a southpaw with good fielding and no arm, does he look like a prototypical 1b to anybody else? He's actually more advanced SI-wise than the 1B above him in A Ball, and younger. |

amalric7 Joined: 01/20/2016 Posts: 2238 New York Lancers V.4 | @ESac - Saying that's your best draft pick this year still isn't saying much for him! IMO it looks like you're drafting for need, or for position. In the early rounds of the draft particularly, and pretty much all the way through to be honest, you need to be picking BPA: Best Player Available. Always look for the potential on draft prospects: very good > good > average > no report. There are still no guarantees (see my post in the 2029 Round 1 thread yesterday) but you can at least increase your odds by following those rules. |

Crazy Li Joined: 01/25/2015 Posts: 879 Inactive | Considering he has good overall potential, he may very well have appeared to be the best available. Also, drafting for need isn't that bad of an idea in some cases at least when multiple players that could be good are available and one does fit a need. It's not like getting another player in a position that you're stacked on helps you that much. You can't trade him for a someone that does fill that hole. |
