Oct 30 2066: Championship Trophy Comes Home to San Antonio - by ESac on November 13th, 2024

San Antonio, TX — The San Antonio Defenders have won the 2066 League V.14 Championship after sweeping the Waldorf Cubs in four games.

After tying Game 4 in the 8th inning thanks to a 2-run double from catcher Milton Jin, the Defenders score three in the top of the ninth off of a 3-run homer from Playoffs MVP Hugh Willis.

San Antonio's closer Drew Strickland did enough for the save to end the playoff series with a score of 7-5.

"This game and this series is a testament to the hard work and dedication this team has put in this entire season. I'm proud of what this team has been able to accomplish." Defenders manager Luis Aguilera said on the field post-game. The young manager Aguilera won the championship in only his second season with the team after coming up short last season.

The Playoffs MVP was second baseman Hugh Willis, who went 6-14 with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs in the four game series. At the post game press conference, bottle of champagne in hand, Willis said about the achievement, "I'm just happy to be a part of this great team and lucky to have been able to contribute."

Their 23-year-old shortstop, Sherman Rizzo, who had a great performance in the series in his own right, was asked post-game about what to expect in the future. Rizzo replied, "I can't predict the future, but if our team plays like we did this season, it will very hard to stop us."

The San Antonio Defenders will play next season in League IV.7.

The wait is finally over!

We are excited to announce the new brand identity of the San Antonio Defenders. Incorporating elements inspired by the things that make San Antonio an amazing city. Our new branding includes a teal based on classic San Antonio Spurs uniforms, a magenta that takes inspiration from Fiesta San Antonio, an annual festival in the city, the Alamo, a mighty symbol of the city and team, and a white star marking our home in the Lone Star State.

We cannot wait to see this team in action in 2066, rocking some new threads. #RememberTheAlamo
