DR has a big obstacle against Mexico in the first phase, the others big countries are somehow more favored with the matchup.

Dominican Republic is one of the more competitive teams...Mexico-DR is really the best first round match-up.

Colombia versus Nicaragua and Cuba versus Venezuela are also great match-up. Looks like three good Latin American teams will be eliminated in Round #1.

Aruba, South Africa and Germany look to have pretty tough opponents to start...don't expect them to advance.

You forgot Russia, really don't see them advancing against Canada.

Agree though, DR vs Mexico is the round #1 match-up to watch.

I'm quite excited for Brazil and Puerto Rico. I almost forgot that I have a pitcher playing for Ireland.

I have minor leaguers playing for Germany, Czech Republic and Bahamas. Do the games they play at World Classic count towards their experience?

It's @ Russia, so there's a chance if the maple leafs forget vodka is a "bit" stronger than beer.

If they stay somewhat sober and get a home series, there will be one heck of a caravan heading north from Fall River to see how our 2 best pitcher claims ever are used.

Does "Moose" Baker get the closer role in his second go around with the national team?

Will "Chief" Chapman make the cut for the rotation as a 24 year old?

I guess I'm obligated to root for Australia again since my pitcher, Phillips made the team for like the 4th straight season. Though also hoping for good things out of Taiwan as my rookie pitch, Qi Hu made their team.

Considering moving the World Classic up by half a day....maybe starting the games Tuesday afternoon (PST) and the final series would be on Thursday afternoon (PST).

Since the off-season was accelerated it seems like a good idea so as to actually have it finished the day before spring training starts.

Not sure if this matters, but I noticed looking at the events page that the new first World Classic game is on January 18th. Interestingly it is currently January 20th, as that is the default first day after the season flip... so are we going to go back in time to play some baseball from now on? :)

I just noticed I have had a minor league pitcher on team curacao for the last two years. This makes me think there should be more players from curacao in the international pool, becase my guy is pretty bad.

Edit: nvm, I thought there was a lot more ball players from curacao in the mlb. There's only been 14.

Back to the future! Or back to the past...

Anyway, I guess I better push the first date earlier now that we have an extra round of the classic, the games are starting earlier in the year.

According to world factbook, Curocao's population isn't that big.

Population:
148,406 (July 2015 est.)

Amazing that they've produced 16 big leaguers.

I've noticed that the Brazil manager plays Fabio Lima at 2B instead of CF. The guy at CF only has 9 arm and 17 range. Lima has 16 range and 17 arm.

My afformentioned curacaoian pitcher went 3 1/3 over two games. Only mistake being a walkout home run >_>

Have my only position player on the aussie squad. My minor league pitcher got hI'm to fly out.

Along the out of position lines, he is a OF/2b that played first 2/3 games and right in the other. Doesn't really matter to me, but figured I'd mention it too.

Not a lot of upsets in the first round. I think the best match-up in round #2 is probably Cuba vs. Japan.

I don't know, Thailand/Netherlands has the makings of another Thailand/France series, so if you want 5 games and a ton of scoring, that might be the match-up to watch.

If you haven't done so, check out the Thailand-France war zone. Epic is an understatement, Yuri. 130 runs scored in 5 games! Are we sure they weren't playing slow pitch softball?

France only has 6 pitchers, so they don't have much of a bullpen.

Taiwan gets swept. I blame it on the under-utilization of Qi Hu. He only got to pitch for 1 out. Chances are, he could have pitched a few scoreless innings.

United States versus Canada looks like the most compelling match-up. It seems to be the first real test for either team, and will eliminate another of the favorites.

This Classic has been really good, there has been a match-up of two top teams in each round (Dominican Republic/Mexico in 1st, and Japan/Cuba in 2nd). At the same time there are still about 6 of 8 left that feel like they have a shot at winning it.

Other than clicking on every team to check rosters, is there any way to quickly see which of your own players are playing in the classic.

Are our players world classic stats available somewhere?

Thanks!!

Click on your players' cards. Players on a national team have a purple star for this year's start line.

Don't think stats are saved anywhere though other than keeping a running total through that particular classic as seen in the box scores.

Now for my question: does having players in the world classic do anything for your attendance that season? Like fans really want to see national team players? I think it should give a small boost. I've noticed other sims with national team competitions do this.

Dominican - Puerto Rico

One more win and Dominican Republic will go to the semifinals.

The same with Canada - USA, the Canadians just need another win, USA need to come back with three. Will both Daddy and Son return back from their historically rivals?

Korea and Cuba, The Koreans are commanding their round against the caribbeans with two wins, the next one will decide if Korea are into the semis or Cuba are still breathing.

The other serie is tie.

We didn't save statistics from the first World Classic, but after that we've been collecting them. You can view WC team statistics from the nation page by clicking on National Team Statistics.

Or for individual players you can switch the statistics over to the World Classic with the statistics selector drop down box. Then you get some thing like this: Lee Klein World Classic Statistics.

My 3B Alejandro Reyna FINALLY had his breakout national team game. Much the same as how he plays for me, he plays mediocre baseball most of the time and then he takes it upon himself to win a game every now and again. The problem for me was he didn't do it in the playoffs.

Edit: Just went through the box scores of Canada vs. US, I don't see how Canada isn't the favorite after that series. Dominican Republic looks really good, but Canada playing like they did against the United States is virtually unbeatable.

Game 3 was especially painful for all the Fall River fans that had been tailgating in the parking lot all month waiting for the bus ride north to cheer on their guys and had to watch a 5th series on the Jumbotron.

Despite not allowing a runner to reach scoring position for 5 2/3 innings and only having thrown 80 pitches, Chapman got yanked with a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 7th for low stamina closer Baker. Moose gave up a one-out homer in the 7th, barely escaped the 8th by getting a ground ball with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs and then clearly fatigued, he got called back out for the 9th ... predictably he gave up a leadoff double was still left in to give up the tying homerun.

Hopefully, "Default Manager" gets the hint from all the burning effigies hanging from the Braga bridge and realizes you don't call the closer until an 8th inning emergency at the earliest.

PS. Team Canada is hoping for a least 1 home series next season.

Hope everyone enjoyed the World Classic. Originally, it was designed just to eat up the time between the season flip and spring training, but I think it's become a bit more.

Do you like the new 32-team format? The bottom 16 didn't do very well, but I think it's nice to include more teams.
