This year though he has been terrible with an almost 8 ERA. Should I move him to the bullpen for a bit? Give him some time in the minors? I know that steaminess isn’t a real thing in this game, so should I just ride it out and hope he gets better? | ||

But otherwise, he's pitching worse than he was when he was a rookie, numbers-wise, in league. He lost a point of velocity when he turned 31, which may be why his strikeout rate is lower this year, and that may be a problem if he's used to getting out of trouble by striking people out. I see you are using a 4-1/2 man rotation, you could put him in the 5th spot and see if he improves after the 2nd half of the season starts. I don't know if it's true or not, but it seems to me that good and bad half seasons are things. I'm hoping a lot of my players start playing well again in the 2nd half ![]() Or what I would probably do, if I was attached to him, would be to go get a veteran starter from free agency who has put up okay numbers this year, and put Quintero in the LR2 spot or the minors until the next time you have an injury to your rotation, then put him back up and see how it goes. The biggest giveaway is his K/BB ratio. I feel like anyone can get a bad streak with hits, but when the K/BB ratio turns upside down, they've lost their edge and its time to start looking elsewhere. No one will be seriously offended if you try a high stamina guy as a closer. Myself, I'm new to the idea. I'd rather have a closer with higher C(oS)/M/C, but I also wish I hadn't drafted CMC (football) with 2 top 2 overall picks. Last CMC reference, My current closer Carlos MaChado was a coinflip away from being cut for a late round draft pick. (not coinflips, but 2 snooze buttons to be exact) |
