I like the changes to the expanded league standings, but I'm curious, what's the formula for figuring out the EXWL? It's obviously not based on a team's current win % alone.

Check the other thread on this topic (started by Pig_Cola). It's answered in there.

Thanks SECA, I hadn't seen the other thread. Appreciate it.

Maybe the formula for EXWL should be a bit changed.

Today in League IV.1 East
Milwaukee has an EXWL of 90-70
but they already lost 71 games.

Of course it´s not important, but it does look a little silly.

Mhk- that just means they've had a lot of bad luck. Exwl is based on runs scored and runs against.

ok
so it´s not what the team is expected to do from now on, but what they were expected to do over the whole season.

maybe some bad luck, but mostly horrible bullpen

Yeah, it's basically what their record would be if they played perfectly to their Pythagorean. It's not a prediction on how they'll finish based on how they're playing now or anything.

Pythagorean expectation

See...baseball has been around so long that even Pythagoras played with the statistics a bit. :-)

He was a big fan of Crotone's team back in the day.
