Let’s take a look at how our not bot (and active as well) teams are faring so far

Boca Raton: Wow. Looks like they finally stopped doing their 11 POT experiment, and my, it’s worked! Sitting in 1st at 19-10, the fans are actually purchasing merchandise for the first time in decades as the Gryphons appear to be headed to their first promotion since 2028, when they were the Summerville Octopuses and run by a guy named applesauce.

Indianapolis: Oh, damn. What the *beep* has happened there? Sitting at 8-22, the fans are streaming away from the ballparks and Yogi Berra’s quote looks pretty applicable.

“If the fans don’t wanna come to the ballpark, noone’s gonna stop them”

Only one of their hitters (Arias) is in “Hot” form, and despite having 3 pitchers under the “Hot! category, they are struggling and the 79-81 season of 2048 is looking like a mirage. Good news: Morales is looking like a serious RoTY candidate. Bad news: That’s all the good news.

Prattville: An insane 11-18 start (well, insane because our record the previous 2 seasons has been 48-112 and 61-99) has Panthers fans somewhat excited, and player turnover is down (so far). However, very odd stats (.247 AVG, 5.77 ERA), make this all look like a fluke. For every Horace Bach (.330, 7 HR, 20 RBI, 1.027 OPS) and Mark Keefe (2-1, 2.97 ERA, 7 GS), even though Keefe looks really lucky (1.530 WHIP, .272 BAA, 14K-14BB), there is an Al Kuhn (9.17 ERA, 1.425 WHIP, .358 BAA) and Andrés Sanchez (.108 AVG, .416 OPS). However, Takamatsu (.298 AVG, .818 OPS, 6 K- 6 BB) could be a contender for ROTY, though prolly not.

That’s it for the VI.30 East for now :)

I actually stopped the 11 POT thing back at the end of ’42 or so, upping it to 12 POT (and I’m scrapping that for a draft-only model, though I’ll be running the 12 POTs while drafted players grow up). That said, I have had some good runs now and then with both the 11 POT and 12 POT squads, but it never lasts — if anything, the 11 POT guys were generally performing better than the 12 POT guys have. We’ll see if this is the season they finally put it all together.

The All-Star break is coming up, and it’s normal days in VI.30 again: Boca Raton feels their grip on the league slip, Indianapolis returns to respectability, and Prattville is in last. Some potential All-Stars for me, only 2 worth reporting haha (though Bailey, Roberts, Lozano and Takamatsu have been sparks off the bench).

Ceaser Vélez: After only being useful as a base runner last year, he’s broken out and learned how to hit more often, with a .295 AVG, .822 OPS, 22 SB, 8 HR, 44 RBI, and 24 doubles. It’s been an amazing breakout, as he popped up a potential, and despite being kinda old for a rebuild, Vélez is making it clear that he won’t be cut. He’s even been doing OK at fielding, being a 2B with 10 games prior experience.

Horace Bach: His low BC makes him very steaky, but Bach has been doing exceptional as the DH, hitting .285 with 13 HR, 47 RBI, 22 2B, and an .859 OPS. If it weren’t for Meza’s build (still have faith in him even though his improvements are very small), he’d be the everyday 1B.

The mere fact that the Gryphons even have a grip that can slip is proof that no, these are not “normal days”.

 Anyhoo. All Star predictions:

» Bryan Devine has a decent shot at second base over Alicea of Cumberland; Alicea has a slightly better average and fielding percentage, but Devine is decidedly better in slugging and OPS.

» Tim Wilbur is probably a shoo-in for the outfield, if his numbers last year versus this year are anything to go by. Sure, the power is down, but the average is way up.

» John Mauri doesn’t have impressive power numbers, but having a batting average that would qualify for the league’s top ten with another three at bats is bound to turn heads. He may get an outfield nod.

» Alexander D’Agostino has been putting in a strong showing after a sluggish start, and it’s enough that he’ll be a dark horse candidate for the bench if he doesn’t start at first base.

As the Ducks keep pushing their way back up towards .500, three All-Stars get named!

The Hammerin' Hawaiian himself Ivan Ventura makes it for the fourth year in a row. Even in a down year by his standards he is still my best hitter. Would honestly be a shame if I never properly surround him with enough talent to at least get a promotion.

Third baseman Edgar Aguilar earned a shot at the starting job with a great year in limited action off the bench last season, and it's paid off! He's been very good for me this year and it's always fun to see guys who haven't really gotten a fair shake get a chance and knock it out of the park (pun partially intended).

I did have a pitcher but it wasn't Dennis Edwards yet, as not only has his progression seemed to have stalled at 111 SI, he also can't seem to keep the ball in the park at the moment. While we wait to see if Edwards will ever be as good as originally advertised, Emilio Muniz has been tremendous this season. I really liked Muniz as a prospect for his fastball and his 6'7 frame, but when he got called up early into his age 22 season I was not sure if things would pan out for him. My patience with him in the starting rotation has worked out wonderfully as he has been excellent from the jump this season. On pace for another 160+ strikeout year to be paired with career lows in ERA, FIP and BAA. I hope his HR rate doesn't spike up towards where it has been the last couple of years in the second half, because it would ruin what has been a great campaign for him.

Overall, the team has fought back in a big way after the rough start. If you would have told me at the halfway point we would be scrapping around .500 when we were 9-24 I wouldn't have believed you. Maybe with a little boost from some guys on the cusp in AAA we can make some actual noise soon.

Ask and you shall receive I guess!

In one update session I have been recommended to call up Vernon Weston and Evan Knutsen to the major league squad! They are probably the two best prospects I have in my system and I will be inserting them into the starting lineup immediately for two of my worst hitters at the moment.

If they can have an immediate impact, then maybe our chase for the division title isn't quite over after all..

Well, it looks like it’ll be a moon shot for Indianapolis to win, though crazy things have happened. Boca Raton is still (somehow) in contention, as this “only draft” strategy is working.

Prattville? Uh, no. With last night’s loss and Cumberland’s win, we have officially been eliminated from contention, thanks in large part to an amazing 17-game slide, which included one game where we blew a 10-4 lead by allowing 14 runs in the final 3 innings.

We have found a cheap & passable manager in Pop (real name Greg) Barone, and it looks like Lozano, Vélez, Rowe, and Wilkins are keepers, while Floyd Bailey hasn’t *beep*ed up yet. The pitching is still *beep*, though.

Steve may come after me for using profanities, but ay, its not like my team has given me reason to jump for joy.

Our season is in the books, let’s see how we did.

Boca Raton (96-94, 2nd, 7 GB)

After getting 6 good draftees, Boca Raton seems to have found something from within, as they had their best season since 2027 (pre-Aleksandur days), and getting 7 All Stars, however, like almost every Boca Raton team, they faded and lost their grip on the division. However, with some electrifying prospects coming up, the Gryphons might be able to get promoted.

Indianapolis (77-83, 4th, 26 GB)

With 3 All Stars, including the very surprising (not really) selection of Ventura (for the 4th time in a row), the Ducks took a step back from last year’s 79-81 breakout (from 58-102, that is), but they are still a team to be reckoned with and are emerging from their rebuild. They also had a solid draft, netting 7 players in 8 rounds.

Prattville (45-115, 6th, 58 GB)

Okay... Right. Where shall we start? The +/- of -412 and the 45-115 record were the worst in franchise history and the worst in VI.30 since 2034, when Boca Raton was doing its best at tanking.

Continuing our streak of amazing roster turnover, things are appearing to start settling down, as Vélez, our lone ASG representative, Lozano, and Wilkins established themselves, but the big story was that Hugh Rowe, who’s been the guy I almost cut about 7 times now, finally learning how to hit, and homegrown Oswaldo Davila coming on strong at the end of his 125-AB debut. Other encouraging signs include a minors system that keeps getting better, featuring 43-claimer 14 POT Arnie North, and 4 2049 draftees.

However, it looks like a long rebuild for us.

Just finished trimming the fat from my major league and minor league roster, and I feel good overall about the direction of the organization.

Giving the young high potential guys the starting spots should pay more dividends this year than it did at the tail end of last season. Ventura, Aguilar, Cooper and Baumgartner leading the way is solid, and I think the likes of Stromberg and Amador have a breakout season on the horizon (similar to what Stromberg did the first half of 2048, but for a whole year this time). If I can get one or two of the bottom half of my lineup to pop up to .750 OPS, we're in good shape.

Top to bottom I feel like this is my best pitching staff I have had since I took over here. It isn't great, but I have 4 or 5 guys I feel really confident in. In the next couple of years, I might look more to free agency and waivers to add talent on this side, but that probably won't happen until Lemke, Calderon and Okada finally age out.

The minor league system is pretty depleted. Some bad draft and development luck the last couple of years hasn't helped much. Hopefully that luck turns around this year.

I can see Weston and Knutsen on your team also having good seasons. All I can see for us is maybe Tapia, Sales, and Magnum breaking out. But that’s unlikely :(
