We sit nervously atop the table with a 32-18 record and a 5 game lead going into inter-league play. Out East Sunrise and Florence remain locked together on 31-19. In the Cup we've made it to the last 64 for the first time since 2052 and if we can go 1 round further it will be our best run since 2033. It will be a tough task though against Baton Rouge, currently top of III.1 East. In III.4, our 2 Hawaiian teams, Lahaina and Makakilo have also made progress. Best of luck to everyone in the inter-league games. Never my favourite part of the season with 5 games a day. In recent years, there's always seemed to be a dominant "side" in my leagues - either the East or the West but not always the same one. Will be interesting to see what this year holds. |

In the final series before the break we were demolished 4-1 by Sunrise, including a stretch where we went 37 innings without scoring an earned run. This has helped Sunrise establish a useful 7 game lead in the East ahead of Florence. Looking at the interdivisional games as whole, the West has the edge with a 99-81 winning record. Naturally, therefore, the East won the all-star game. Talking of All Stars, the Rhinos had 3 this year. 1B, Rodrigo Cabrera, was chosen for the 2nd time, although played as DH, and went 1/3 with a walk. Pitcher Jerry Beck got the nod for the 5th time and pitched innings 4 to 7 without conceding a run. Lloyd Hardy was selected for the first time but was not actually called upon to take to the mound. Overall, every team had at least 1 pick with Sunrise having the most with 6. Finally, to the cup. Rockford bowed out at the 3rd knockout round, going down to Baton Rouge in 3 games. III.4 hopes now rest with Makakilo who have made the last 16. Best of luck to them in the next round. Updated Thursday, February 9 2023 @ 5:06:47 am PST |

However, before we get to that, there's big news in III.4 in that Makakilo have reached the cup final. Best of luck to them in their attempts to raise the trophy. Back to the league, and the East certainly fought back with a vengeance in the second half, taking it by a whopping margin of 102-78, giving them a winning record of 183-177 overall. At Rockford, we just about ended up in the black, finishing 31-29. We still have a 2 game lead, but now it's over Makakilo, rather than Lahaina, who are 2 games further back and are themselves 2 games clear of Simi Valley in 4th. In the East, Sunrise remains ahead but Florence has cut their lead to 4. Best of luck to everyone for the final 50. |

In the West, we're clinging to our lead like a drowning man to a life-raft but it's down to 1 1/2 games over Makakilo with Lahaina 2 further games back. Simi Valley have dropped back a bit so it looks like a 3-horse race now. In the East, it's even tighter as Florence has cut Sunrise's lead to just 1, with Brockton hanging on in there a further 3 1/2 games behind. Certainly still all to play for as we reach the point where we have games every day. Updated Friday, February 24 2023 @ 2:36:23 am PST |

Here in the West, we've had a good period and have managed to stretch our lead to 5 1/2 games with 17 to play so 12 more wins needed to clinch the title. Makakilo are the only realistic challengers remaining. In the East, there's been a flip-flop at the top with Florence now out in front, 3 1/2 games clear of the late-charging Brockton who had an 11 game winning streak at one point. Sunrise have slipped back to 3rd, a further 1/2 game back. Brockton go to Florence next for what could be the decisive games of the season. Best of luck to all involved. |

jezzat Joined: 01/27/2019 Posts: 118 Rockford Rhinos V.9 ![]() | Thank you Jobywan. It's been an interesting season and far closer than the final margin suggests. Congratulations to you on your run to the Cup Final. The East meanwhile has gone down to the final day with 3 teams still in contention. With their Run Difference lead, Florence realistically only need to win 2 of their final 3 games against Hendersonville. If they slip up, Sunrise can overtake them by winning 2 more games than they do. Sunrise end with 3 games against Indianapolis. Brockton still have a slim chance. They end with 4 games at Miami Gardens. They need to win all 4 and hope Florence get swept and Sunrise win no more than 1. Best of luck to all concerned.
