I have had some success with my team, but I know there is always room for improvement. If you have a few minutes to spare, I would be grateful if you could take a peek at my team and offer any suggestions that you feel could be beneficial. I am open to any constructive feedback that could help me take my team to the next level. |

The first thing to do is follow the manual, just based on that you would be able to set your squad correctly. The only lie in the manual is about no hidden skills. A known hidden skill is stealing base preference. Based on the manual, you can already see some players on your roster played the wrong positions. For example Edgardo Cantu. It is really questionable whether you should retrain him to 3B in his 28 years, but it's good to know for the future. You have there a lot of dudes like this one. When you know where to play your guys, you also need to know which one to pick. I would say follow equation: Bad comments + good comments + potential = decision More about those in this thread. In general, bad comments are an instant kick for most players. "He will never be a decent hitter." for example should be kind of acceptable only on SS with great defensive skills (Like all 18s and more) because those dudes, especially in higher leagues, can hit a thing. "He will always be wild" and "Control is Lacking" are also really bad ones and I would advise releasing those. "Control below average" is the only bad comment for pitchers that I saw work with other great comments. Also, as you can see in the forum, some skills or skill ranges have no comments at all so there you can kind of guess based on their progress so far and potential. For example Joseph Healy still could improve a bit based on his potential and you could guess that fielding could go 1 point max, but I would even guess he won't improve in fielding at all because his 8 was there for last 4 years. I don't know if that's on purpose or not, but you didn't sign anyone yet from FA. If you're not against that I would advise going and searching for some improvement specifically players around 24 to 26 who are ready to play so you could replace some of your vets and worse players. For example Sandy Bowen is your RHP lineup catcher and you can find much better dudes out there to replace him. To have there someone like Greg Allen or Caesar Garcia will not blow your mind but those guys can have a chance to hit at least. So how do your dudes pass all that above? - A lot of them play wrong positions: Kang Dae Rhee is 3B, Berry Wren is 2B, Cristian Rosas is 2B, Edgardo Cantu is 3B. Good thing is that all of them are older dudes so you will replace them soon. Expect Barney Shepherd who's 1B in my book. - "He will never be a decent hitter." players: Luis Reyna, Sandy Bowen, Neal Bateman and Daquan Harmon. I would cut them all, only one who I would think about is Daquan Harmon if you don't have anyone better right now. Bad control comments: Dick Cooney, Mauro Pina and Ernesto RodrÃguez. As I said above, sometimes even bad comments could work for pitchers like for Mauro Pina and Ernesto RodrÃguez. I would definitely cut Dick Cooney. In the end, you will for sure judge your players by their stats. There will definitely be many different takes, but from me, I would say be careful with stats. Not fully developed players will have worse stats, some FA players can have had stats but could work in your ballpark, and so on. I usually give a player with good comments around half a season when he doesn't improve anymore to see his stats and I decide after if he's for it or not. |

Its a bit dated, and certainly never 100% accurate but it gives a reasonable estimate of the ranges. There is additional useful information here:https://brokenbat.org/forum/0/2/4503 Another useful tip is to look at some of the rosters from the Legends teams. It can help you figure out what sorts of players made those teams successful. Also, avoid the POT trap. High POT does not equal high skill. POT is just one of many indicators. End of the day the best predictor of future performance is past performance. Make use of the stats you have available, and include stats, ratings, and potential (scouting report) in your decisions. |

Rock777 Joined: 09/21/2014 Posts: 9778 Haverhill Halflings Legends ![]() | Kang Dae Rhee is another good example. He has a nice OBP, so he is a useful player, but not the star you might expect from 15 POT. He also has a 3B build, not a 2B build. So his previous management trained him up in the wrong position. With his low Range he is actually a liability at 2B. Not saying you should cut him, but he isn't a good 2B. Doesn't really have the SLG to be a DH (the high GB/FB ratio doesn't help). I wouldn't play him at 3B now because he has no position experience. I would probably only trust him at DH or 1B. But again, I would prefer better SLG at those positions. Other players should be first on the chopping block, but just to give you an idea of ways you can improve. |

But he was promoted too soon and this is stunting him from reaching his true potential. He needs more time in the minors. I would put him back in AA or AAA (wherever the AI suggest). Same with Ford. He needs more time in the minors or he will stunt. Other than Ford and Gossett, I think the rest are old or expendable. And Ford and Gossett both need more time in the minors otherwise they won't be great players. EDIT: Didn't look at your minors at all. Updated Wednesday, March 22 2023 @ 4:47:18 pm PDT |
