Opinions please?

Would you rather your player have 10 fielding and 16 range or 16 fielding and 10 range?

Thanks!

Depends somewhat on the position.

Range is probably preferred everywhere but catcher. Maybe corner infield.

Like Seca said. Range is calculated as a team to determine if the ball gets into a hole when a batter hits the ball. This means you can make up for bad range in one position, with good range in others. However certain positions are weighted. Here is a total WAG at how weightings might work:

Code:
C, P: 0.1 1B, 3B: 0.3 LF, RF: 0.5 2B: 0.8 SS, CF: 1

I can guarantee that those numbers are wrong, but you can get the idea of general importance based on position.

Fielding is important for 3B, but less so for 1B. Still, I would probably want more fielding than range at 1B. Really I don't stress too much over defense at 1B as they don't get too many plays (unless throw/catch errors depend on fielding).

A 16 fielding 10 range would work for a third baseman.

Read the section on setting up your defense

C: throws RH R, needs arm
1B: LH
2B: RH, fielding range and a bit of arm
3B: RH, fielding arm and a bit of range
SS: RH, fielding range and arm
CF: best fielding OF plus range and arm
LF: range and a bit of arm
RF: arm and a bit of range
DH:doesn't field

Interesting, I'd argue that CF needs to be the rangiest outfielder, but I can't argue against CF needing to be the best fielder of the bunch. Hm..

I'm not sure what your arguing against... that's the same thing as it says in the manual.

Think I misread that with LF saying Range plus Arm. For some reason that connected in my head as "range most important here!"
