This means you can make up for bad range in one position, with good range in others. However certain positions are weighted. Here is a total WAG at how weightings might work: Code:
C, P: 0.1
1B, 3B: 0.3
LF, RF: 0.5
2B: 0.8
SS, CF: 1
I can guarantee that those numbers are wrong, but you can get the idea of general importance based on position. Fielding is important for 3B, but less so for 1B. Still, I would probably want more fielding than range at 1B. Really I don't stress too much over defense at 1B as they don't get too many plays (unless throw/catch errors depend on fielding).
