#27 - Bartolomé Guzmán [ID #254196] 1B |
Home Town: Cuernavaca, Mexico School: none Drafted: 2047, Round #3 by Niagara Falls Kings |
Hall Of Famer Bats (L) Throws (L) Positions: 1B OF |
|
Games 1593, AVE .294, OBP .322, SLG .532, OPS .855, H 1744, 2B 456, 3B 32, HR 298, RBI 1043, SB 11 |
Notes: Rookie of the year, 6 x all-star, 1 x all-team all-star, 1 x MVP. Gus could hit for power, hit for avg and he played a solid defense (1B or OF). What more could team management and ownership ask for. For a waiver pick in 2052 with a potential of 12 (later falling to 11), he was awesome. I'm sure his original draft pick team regrets ever releasing him. Their lost was the Hawks gain. |
#38 - Enrique Vargas [ID #139251] P |
Home Town: New York, New York School: none Drafted: 2029, Round #1 by Hackensack Mighty Hawks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: P |
|
Games 427, W 220, L 130, CG 115, SHO 24, ERA 3.15, BAA .255, WHIP 1.242, IP 3032⅔, K 1981 |
Notes: Righty (Enrique) Vargas was in a category of his own, 3 Cy Young awards, 6 time All Star, 4 time All league All Star pitcher. He was the Mr reliable of the pitching staff. He played to win and would pitch as long as it took to beat his opponents. He just never gave up. He focused on winning each and every game. "Righty" once pitched and won a 13 inning game because he refused to give in. A premiere starter if ever there was.
With his experience he was a valued mentor to the younger pitchers. He was always willing to help and provide technical advice and encouragement to the juniors on the pitching staff. His presence will be missed but, his desire to win will be felt within the Hawk organization for years to come. |
#40 - Arnold Tierney [ID #159878] OF |
Home Town: Newport News, Virginia School: none Drafted: 2033, Round #1 by Yokohama BayStars |
Hall Of Famer Bats (L) Throws (L) Positions: OF |
|
Games 1639, AVE .283, OBP .303, SLG .532, OPS .836, H 1907, 2B 526, 3B 114, HR 308, RBI 1211, SB 515 |
Notes: Picked up on waivers with tons of promise at the ripe old age of 25. He began his apprenticeship under the tutelage of Mario Beck the master of the game. Right from the start Mario knew he was something special. He could do it all, hit for power, hit for average, drive in runs, steal bases or patrol the outfield. When Arnold was hot he carried the team . Opposing pitchers hated to face him with the game on the line. Speed was his middle name and his power could light up New York city. A franchise player if ever there was. |
#41 - Alonzo Valentín [ID #128024] C |
Home Town: Havana, Cuba School: none Drafted: 2026, Round #8 by Hackensack Mighty Hawks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: C 3b |
|
Games 1217, AVE .279, OBP .375, SLG .389, OPS .764, H 1067, 2B 186, 3B 8, HR 73, RBI 426, SB 10 |
Notes: "Mr Eveready" He always gave 100%+, whether at the bat or on the field. At bat, he always found a way to get on base. A perennial On Base Percentage leader. Although he was never recognized as an all-star, he helped the team with his batting eye, catching and solid hitting. Players like him are what make the team he plays on competitive. He will be sorely missed. |
#41 - Elton Caruso [ID #181763] 1B |
Home Town: New Prague, Minnesota College: University of Minnesota Drafted: 2037, Round #2 by Harlingen Aardvarks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (L) Throws (L) Positions: 1b of |
|
Games 1221, AVE .298, OBP .361, SLG .539, OPS .900, H 1423, 2B 349, 3B 17, HR 256, RBI 905, SB 34 |
Notes: A pure hitter with lots of power, 6 years with 100+RBIs, 6 years with 30+ HRs and a lifetime batting of .298. He was an intricate part of the Hawks power and RBI machinery from 2047 to 2051. Elton "Swat" Caruso is the type of player every team covets, i.e., hits for avg, power and RBIs. On top of all that, he was a solid fielder. One of the best waiver picks of a young ball player the Hawks ever made. |
#54 - Aramis Cardona [ID #113714] P |
Home Town: Guadalajara, Mexico School: none Drafted: 2024, Round #1 by Hackensack Mighty Hawks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: P |
|
Games 427, W 204, L 145, CG 92, SHO 11, ERA 3.28, BAA .252, WHIP 1.328, IP 2974⅔, K 1619 |
Notes: A tireless workhorse who in his heyday gave the team a chance to win with every start. A major part of Hackensack's (Wellington's) pitching trio of Vargas, Cardona & Soriano. He richly deserves this honor as shown by his outstanding record. Teams at every level knew when they faced Cardona they were in for a fight if they hoped to win. A well deserved honor for a great pitcher. |
#56 - Alfonso Matos [ID #241570] P |
Home Town: Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic School: none Drafted: 2044, Round #2 by Hackensack Mighty Hawks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: P |
|
Games 647, W 18, L 22, S 273, ERA 2.89, BAA .214, WHIP 1.170, IP 516⅓, K 435 |
Notes: Lifetime 2.89 ERA with a WHIP of 1.170 he was a reliable closer if ever there was. He was a perennial top ten closer in each league he played in. Managers Beck and Pritchett knew that once they gave the ball to "Moonlight", the win was in the bag. Hopefully another closer as good or close to Moonlight can be found ASAP. Until then it will be "Closer by committee". |
#77 - Soshi Maeda [ID #193153] OF |
Home Town: Fukuyama, Japan School: none Drafted: 2039, Round #3 by Hackensack Mighty Hawks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (L) Throws (L) Positions: OF |
|
Games 1542, AVE .294, OBP .367, SLG .504, OPS .872, H 1714, 2B 448, 3B 35, HR 235, RBI 986, SB 8 |
Notes: One hell of a player: Rookie of the yr, 7 x Allstar, 2 x All team, 1 x MVP + a lifetime BA of .294. He was a line drive hitter with some power. He could start a rally, continue one or add the finishing touches to it. A perennial OBP leader and an excellent fielder. A valuable member of the Hawks team and an intricate part of the Hawk execution squad (Tierney, Caruso, Maeda). His solid bat, play, and leadership will be difficult to replace. He meant business once he stepped foot on the field or had a bat in his hand. |
#81 - Casey Swanson [ID #209890] 3B |
Home Town: Augusta, Georgia College: University of South Florida Drafted: 2043, Round #6 by Hackensack Mighty Hawks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: 3B OF |
|
Games 1759, AVE .281, OBP .359, SLG .429, OPS .788, H 1684, 2B 389, 3B 47, HR 135, RBI 819, SB 81 |
Notes: 3 time Allstar with a .281 lifetime batting avg. He was a solid hitter and a super defensive replacement. Whether it was 3B, CF or C (later on in his career), he played all positions well and, with his strong arm, he was a defensive force to be reckoned with. In his later years, this flexibility gave managers Beck and later Pritchett maneuvering room when injuries and slumps hit his fellow players. Every team needs players like him to be competitive year in and year out. A player like him is hard to replace. |
#91 - Bryan Hunter [ID #246243] 1B |
Home Town: New York, New York High School: Glenn High School Drafted: 2043, Round #3 by Bountiful Bikers |
Hall Of Famer Bats (S) Throws (R) Positions: 1B of |
|
Games 1580, AVE .296, OBP .336, SLG .533, OPS .869, H 1808, 2B 477, 3B 29, HR 305, RBI 1186, SB 2 |
Notes: Bryan (AKA-"Stormy") was a premiere RBI man with lots of power and a great contact hitter. He could carry a team through a slump or put the icing on an important win. Every team needs a "Stormy" Hunter.
6 time All star
4 time All league 1B
10 seasons 20 HRs+
8 seasons 100 RBIs+
1 MVP season including triple crown .346, 40HRs & 155RBIs
