#7 - Ronald Bishop [ID #233039] P |
Home Town: Largo, Florida High School: St. John High School Drafted: 2041, Round #7 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: P |
|
Games 423, W 151, L 133, S 16, CG 44, SHO 12, ERA 3.61, BAA .234, WHIP 1.152, IP 2364 , K 1621 |
Notes: Inscrutable, often dominant, sometimes confoundingly inconsistent.
Ronald Bishop, aka The Enigma, aka Ronnie B was a true Florida Man while spending his career on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Seeing Bishop on the mound was always entertaining. Either because he would fireball everything in sight, or because he'd get blown up for 5 runs in the 1st inning, so there'd be a good offensive game on.
Despite his reputation for sometimes being an infuriating teammate on the field, he was a true Biloxi legend, the team's ace and main starter for the formative years as the team struggled back to respectability. This netted him a Cy Young award, and while his W/L total is not necessarily impressive, his WHIP and career BAA shows that on most days, The Enigma was a terrifying sight to behold on the pitcher's mound. |
#9 - Ruben Diaz [ID #225927] P |
Home Town: West Jordan, Utah Junior College: Salt Lake Community College Drafted: 2041, Round #6 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (S) Throws (R) Positions: P |
|
Games 563, W 14, L 30, S 451, ERA 3.39, BAA .197, WHIP 1.196, IP 579⅓, K 459 |
Notes: Locked in as closer after a shaky few seasons as a middle reliever, Diaz found his stride with a series of amazing seasons as closer. Far outclassing every other closer in ballclub history, his stats, as good as they are, do not do him justice, as his true star power as a closer gets diluted by his first subpar seasons with a higher workload.
But 5 All-League selections, 3 All-Star nods, 6 seasons with a sub 2.50 ERA, 8 seasons of sub 1.400 WHIP, with half of those being below 1.000. Through a 7 seasons stretch he had a floor of 38 saves, breaking 40 on all other seasons and 50 twice. More than 400 saves in his career, with less than 50 blown. At his best, no one could compare to the Stormin' Mormon. |
#11 - Kendall Schaeffer [ID #165790] P |

Games 271, W 96, L 112, CG 34, SHO 5, ERA 4.77, BAA .303, WHIP 1.492, IP 1669⅓, K 550 |
Notes: Aka "The Sheriff", Schaeffer was a career pitcher for the Scorpions through many dire years. He found new life as a starter in his early thirties. Despite never pitching with great speed or great change of speed, his masterful grasp of twisting the ball out of reach of hitters gave him a succesful career. |
#35 - Randall Sellers [ID #171307] 3B |
Home Town: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania School: none Drafted: 2035, Round #2 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (L) Throws (R) Positions: 3B c |

Notes: Aka "Red Randy" Sellers, had a prolific stint as a DH, where he was often relegated due to his problems on defense.
A certified slugger, he was one of very few players retained when new management started turning Biloxi around in 2047. which gave him his greatest years and his first winning seasons after nearly 12 years with the team. |
#36 - Dirk Wahl [ID #192125] 1B |
Home Town: Hollister, California School: none Drafted: 2039, Round #1 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |

Notes: "Diamond Dirk", as he was known for most of his career. was a career Thresher Shark. He amassed 8 All-Star appearances, 6 All-League berths, 5 gold gloves, 2 pennants and an MVP in his 12 senior seasons with the team. By a wide margen the greatest team leader and player of recent Biloxi history, the California native is rightfully enshrined in the team HoF, with his switch-hitting home run ability a true mark of his greatness. |
#47 - Fabián Castaneda [ID #183332] P |
Home Town: Mexico City, Mexico School: none Drafted: 2037, Round #4 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: P |
|
Games 126, W 36, L 32, CG 2, ERA 4.36, BAA .244, WHIP 1.451, IP 570 , K 355 |
Notes: Aka "Fab Fabián". Career starter and one of very few retained when Biloxi cleaned out their roster after being acquired by new management for the 2048 season. Despite never being the greatest in either ERA or WHIP, he gained renown late in his career for stringing together commandingly winning seasons seemingly out of nowhere.
Was a minor leaguer until the age of 28, so some of his late blooming may simply come down to a lack of recognition of his undoubted ability to maintain control of games. |
#60 - Mark Newton [ID #240603] P |
Home Town: Las Vegas, Nevada High School: Palo Verde High School Drafted: 2042, Round #2 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (L) Throws (L) Positions: P |
|
Games 395, W 114, L 89, S 2, CG 29, SHO 11, ERA 3.78, BAA .223, WHIP 1.107, IP 1901⅓, K 1124 |
Notes: Mark 'the Shark' Newton, long-serving Biloxi pitcher and one of the last survivors of the old Cranston team that moved to Mississippi in the late 2040's.
He was a solid, set member of the Biloxi starting pitcher rotation through several years of generally weak pitching, proving his worth with several strong shutout seasons and a low WHIP. |
#73 - Ronald Kusunoki [ID #187788] 2B |
Home Town: Williams Bay, Wisconsin School: none Drafted: 2038, Round #3 by Citrus Heights Gators |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: 2B 1b |
|
Games 856, AVE .296, OBP .367, SLG .443, OPS .810, H 1013, 2B 267, 3B 25, HR 61, RBI 469, SB 71 |
Notes: Ronald 'The Kooz' Kusunoki, an early acquisition when the then Scorpions moved back to Biloxi, Kusunoki was originally a right-handed 1st baseman. Arriving at Biloxi who were playing with a left-handed 2nd baseman after thinning out the roster, the Kooz had to quickly retrain for 2B. Enduring a high error-rate for a couple of seasons, he was instrumental in securing the Thresher Sharks two straight promotions into LL4. Here he was gradually eased into a DH role as better defense took over on base, and was here instrumental in helping the Sharks get a first .500 record at that level. |
#74 - Craig Phillips [ID #176037] 3B |
Home Town: Los Angeles, California School: none Drafted: 2036, Round #1 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |
Hall Of Famer Bats (R) Throws (R) Positions: 3B 1B |
|
Games 516, AVE .266, OBP .336, SLG .392, OPS .729, H 513, 2B 105, 3B 8, HR 41, RBI 239, SB 3 |
Notes: Solid hitting 3rd Baseman with a talent for drawing walks, Phillips was another victim of Biloxi's many years in the basement, where bad management and bad coaching left him unable to show his talent before his age 30 season.
He was instrumental in beginning to drag the club back up from the quagmire in the waning years of his career before his speed and arm deteriorated, relegating him to a reserve role before his retirement. |
#85 - Jakub Čiernik [ID #269895] OF |
Home Town: Trenčín, Slovakia School: none Drafted: 2050, Round #2 by Biloxi Thresher Sharks |

Notes: Jakub "Carpy" Čiernik of Slovakia was a mainstay in the Biloxi outfield for many seasons, racking up solid statistics for many seasons in a row. |
#99 - Clyde Hubbard [ID #33078] 2B |
Home Town: New York, New York School: none |
Hall Of Famer Bats (S) Throws (R) Positions: 2B c 1b 3b of |

Notes: More than 1000 stolen bases, even at the level he played at, should make anyone eligible for the HoF of their club. The leading base stealer by a long shot, Hubbard finally got inducted in 2056, celebrating the versatile defender and prolific slugger. |
