I feel as if my bullpen talent is on the rise and I'd like to go with a more traditional MLB style of set up guy pitch the 7th, next set up guy pitches the 8th, and the closer pitches the 9th (it doesn't seem like a 4 out save would work unless I let the closer pitch in the 8th). Im struggling finding the ideal management set up for the three positions to do what I want it to. Someone with let's say 8 stamina I have the pitch count close to 20-25. If they are brought in, they might pitch multiple innings though and I want that to end. I want the two set up guys to be interchangeable (righty and lefty) but to only pitch one inning. I don't care who pitches the 7th or 8th between the two, but I want each to get an inning, not necessarily their max pitch count. For the closer, ideally I'd like him to be available in the late 8th inning and obviously the 9th. However with the 8th inning set as his first inning he gets brought in at the beginning of the 8th and can go 2 innings. I used to do smallest RD @ -4 and largest RD @ 4 but I switched to -3 and 3 this year, which seems to be appropriate for the closer, but I'm not sure if this is with the set up men. Any advice here would be appreciated. |

Garnash11 Joined: 08/18/2022 Posts: 18 Monterey Titans II.1 | I have used the following set up for many seasons ... I have 2-4 handed specialists (both left and right) set to come in in the 7th. Pitch count set to zero. I have 1-2 set up guys set to come in the 8th with a pitch count set at 20 and my closer comes in the 9th only and has a pitch count of 25. I do not use the triangle settings at all. No other claims than it's how I do it and generally, I'm really happy with my 'pen. Good luck! Edit: my specialists are always set for handed matchups only and rarely face more than 1 batter. Updated Saturday, August 24 2024 @ 1:37:06 pm PDT |

I'd like that to continue because I have a good amount of minor league arms about to be promoted. I have them come in the 5th inning, usually face a hitter or two and then removed. So should I set one set up guy for the 7th, one for the 8th, and closer in the 9th? 15-20 pitch count would make more sense and the closer 25. |
