May 03 2028: Streak comes to a tragic end - by Rock777 on July 28th, 2016

Coming into today's game the Highlanders boosted an impressive 0-11 record in 1 run games. However the Isotopes snapped that streak today when Arteaga gave up two runs in the eighth inning. Dejected fans were seen leaving the stadium with torn up "Born Losers" signs. Many had expressed interest in seeing how long the team to stretch the streak. "Now they will probably just lose another 8 or 9 before they win one" commented one such fan. Despite the GMs constant appeals for patience, most fans have already given up on the year and are now looking for something else to pique their interest. With the breaking of the streak there are concerns that attendance may slip even more at Hospital Hill.

After failing to reach the playoffs the Highlanders release Fred Carr. Fan's are shocked and dismayed. In four years with the Highlanders Carr has never had a losing record (neither League or Cup). When asked about this dubious decision managements response was simply "while Fred has been a great contributor to this club for several years, we felt it was time to move on." Will there be more empty seats this year?

Rookie manager Jesse Purcell takes the reigns from the beloved Fred Carr.

Additionally veteran setup man Norm Wright has retired. "He will be missed and a hard man to replace." Youngster Al Bass has taken over the setup role from an aging Wright last year, but Bass is expected to move into a starting role this year. With star closer Ron Shields just around the corner from retirement, who will be the future anchors in the Haverhill bullpen?

After a several embarrassing series against the West, the Highlanders have a long ways to go if they want dig themselves out of the hole they are in. On paper it looks like the Highlanders should be shoo-ins, but one look at their 1-run game record is all it takes to see why this team is 7 games out.

Oh, and Ayers finally got the boot.
