The playoffs will use winning percentage as the means of qualifying for the post-season. Let's say the Cardinals, who have played 8 games as of today, play a total of 40 games and go 21-19 and the Reds play 60 games and go 31-29. The Cards, who played 20 fewer games, get the nod over the Reds. So the point brought up was: you get through 40-50 games and have a decent win %, claim a clubhouse "official" has had contact with the virus and shut it down until the playoffs. We've been witness to some pretty underhanded happenings the past few years just to win Manfred's "hunk of metal". Why would this strategy not be in the tool bag? Even if they ever got around to finding out, you've already sold your playoff merch and maybe even won the WS. |
