MLB states: "An unearned run can never take place without the occurrence of an error or a passed ball." I don't see anything in either the E or PB columns. However, Dunbar shows two wild pitches. All indications show that in MLB, scored runs on wild pitches should be counted as earned runs. They seem to have been counted as unearned in this case. Is this an error in the system or intentional, meaning something specific to Broken Bat? |

I recall this because I remember conversations on MLB Network where they argued about how it doesn't make sense... meaning, if a pitcher threw the wild pitch that caused the run, surely the pitcher should have earned that run due to their own actions... but apparently that's how MLB rules say that it works. However, MLB's online pages seem to indicate a run scored on a wild pitch should be earned. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/standard-stats/unearned-run http://m.mlb.com/glossary/standard-stats/earned-run http://m.mlb.com/glossary/standard-stats/passed-ball |
