Following on from the success of last years effort set up by Frank, here's round 2.

There's a few key changes:

12 teams, not 20
Weekly settings instead of daily
Autopick, to allow for various time-zones.

This is the first time I've set one up so hopefully I've got it in a workable setting! I'll set the draft time once its full, but being Auto-pick its neither here nor there.

Good luck all!

I've never played fantasy baseball before. Though I have played a ton of fantasy football. I might need a few pointers.

Invites or PM's sent.

2 spots still open

Philliesworld - Haselrig came in last year having never played and challenged Franky all the way to the title so you'll pick it up easy enough.

Interesting draft all around, not too unhappy with mine, gotta get the trade talks starting though - who's got an RF to spare!

I'm quite pleased with my draft, got back all the players I was trying to from last year's Champions.
I'm open to trades! Scherzer is on the block too!

Unfortunately, ESPN doesn't allow me to login by mobile. I need a PC, thus I won't be tinkering so much as last year.

Enjoy!

Philliesworld - if I was to evaluate your team from a neutral perspective I'd look at trading one or two of your SP for spare position players, you haven't got any back ups at 1B or LF for example, so either looking through whose in free agency, or go through the other teams and propose a trade - its one of the best parts of fantasy IMHO!

Frank's building up a good lead already, I'm pretty happy to be in 3rd having had a couple of injuries to contend with.

The weekly format seems to have significantly reduced the trade market, I've proposed one or two which haven't gone anywhere - I'm in the market for an RF if anyone wants to talk, I have SS's to spare!

I got involved in a lil bit of trade talks myself, to no avail.
I feel it's the scoring system to stop any exchange: I'm open to trade Kimbrel or Scherzer, I've got no attachment to those players or their teams.
Prob is: they're the best at their position, how can I replace all their points? Trout/ Harper, who else? Cabrera is not enough.
So I'm staying put and enjoying the ride ;)

Also: notice how many injuries every team suffered!

Man, this format is killing me. I can't get Miggy out of the line-up and I can't get Bellinger back in. I think I missed my window for roster shuffling for the week. So frustrating :)

Yep! Weekly deadline is frustrating, oftentimes. More so this season with the new 10-day Injury List in MLB. Or the 7-day Concussion Reserve List. Many times, health decisions are made before Tuesday's games and in rotisserie we have to choose on Mondays morning.

However, I prefer the peace of mind of a weekly decision than the daily format. Last season, I spend 1-2 hours a day, EVERY DAY, at noon ET (6pm in italy) to check last minute lineups. The effort paid off, as Laredo won the league, but it was too much frankly.

Again, players on DL are frustrating, but it affects every team.

If anything, I complain about a lack of FA signings. A lack of involvement by several owners.
Laredo (that's me) was able to sign 9 closers, after the (MLB) trade deadline. It isn't supposed to be that easy.

I like rotisserie when you need to look for the new guy, the revelation, yhe Newcomer, the platoon player. When I can sign an established player as a FA anytime ... it's cheap.

Whatever: 400+ points over second place with 4 weeks to go ;)

Missoula down to 3rd and being closed in on by Solana Beach...... I don't hate the weekly format but I probably prefer the daily format, just because it requires more owner interaction - almost a complete lack of trades this year. A 20 owner format would help the easy pick ups that Freddy mentioned also.

I don't know the reason for a lack of trades
I tried my best to exchange a SP for a hitter, right after the draft, but no one bit (IIRC, it was Greinke I was shopping! Big mistake!)
The only serious offer I received was Lamb, 3b, Ari, which I turned down .... because I was already full at 3b: Moustakas (good). Solarte (Meh, eligible as 2B anyway), Prado (blah). And Gallo (!!!).

Other than that, I received several requests for Kimbrel all turned down (rightly so!)
At one point, i ve been considering Kimbrel (+Choo?) for Pollock + Andriese.
Eventually, I pulled back and didn't do it.
One week later, I picked Andriese up as a FA: he was among the best RP in the league before getting injured!
(I mean: eligible as RP, by points accrued)

What does it all mean?
Fantasy baseball is a fickle business... you never know :)

There's one problem I can see: the league's settings.
Last year, I made a mistake in creating the league on ESPN by allowing for too many Bench spots (5).
My reason: to be able to draft prospects, and protect them until they will be called up to the MLB (I was thinking of Gallo and Profar).
It turned out as a big mistake: the correct use of these bench playerswwas to adjust the lineup DAILY, to cope with days off and DTD injuries.
BIG MISTAKE! Not only it required one hour every day, it needed to be done between 12 and 1pm ET ! More a daily grind, than fun.

This season , it was better.
Biggest mistake: we played with 5 SP and 7 RP... But! That is the lower limit! There's no upper limit!!!
Turns out, you can play 5 SP, and as many more SPs as you like if they're eligible at RP.
given the scoring system, any garden variety Joulys Chacin has been worth same as an average Closer.
I'm not sure who realized about this loophole first, but I can assure my team's lead is due in big part to Andriese, Chacin, Urena, Feldman, etc.
All SP, eligible to play as RP due to 2016's usage.
This loophole made proven Closers cheaper, and true middle relievers useless.

In hindsight, the correct settings would have been:
5 SP both minimum and max
6 RP both min and max
1P generic pitcher (to allow those SP/RP guys to be signed at all)

But this is a fine detail too subtle to deal with when youre hurrying to create a new league...

Good analysis of the league there Frank, I wonder whether we should look at having some of the settings locked in for next year so we can have a more standard format year in and year out?

I don't think its too early to congratulate you on another win, and second is looking pretty solid for Private Snowflake too! Now just to hold Steve off for the final podium spot......

Congratulations, Frank. You thoroughly kicked our backsides this season. Congratulations on your victory!

Us common folk did have a pretty good battle for spots 2-5. How about Steve coming back from the dead to finish 3rd? JJ and Haselrig had great seasons as well and made it a lot of fun the final few months.

Thanks you, JJ for putting the league together. Would love to be invited back next season!
