Hi, I'm fairly new to this game and I love it. One thing though, as much as want to participate in these forums, I am very reluctant to because there is so much venom flying around the discussions.

Having the last word and being right isn't what this is about. It should be a DISCUSSION, not a contest to be right. How about sharing an idea, a suggestion and your experiences without judgement. There are at least as many ways to win in BrokenBat as there are in the MLB.

I wish there was a little more compassion, understanding and friendliness in these forums and less nastiness. That's all I have to say, let the attacks begin.

In general folks are pretty nice on these forums. But with any group of people who have a lot of interactions, over time some people start to get nasty with each other. Overall, I would say this board is very newbie friendly, so I wouldn't be afraid to contribute. As long as you are considerate most folks will be considerate back. There are always a few bad apples on any board.

"I am very reluctant to because there is so much venom flying around the discussions."

I have a very different opinion on BB forums. Unlike other online games, people here write full sentences (with period at the end, that's unheard of). But it's not the only thing. Usually discussion is on topic, and personal messages are limited to a minimum (but I could name a few managers that like to get personal more often than not ;) ).
No questions from newbies are left unanswered, unless it's a really stupid one.

To summarize, I have never seen a board like that in the hate-full Internet.

On a side note - why is the topic "Last word"? You're leaving the game?

If I haven't welcomed you before, welcome to Broken Bat TheBa8e o/

Most heated discussions tend to be confined to the "Suggestion" section of the forums. If the suggestion involves an idea for trading in the game, then it's likely to get very warm. I can't recall any discussions in other sections going off the rials like they do there.

The Help section should be a safe haven and no new player (or any player) should have to feel uncomfortable posting there. I think most players would be happy to help you out if you post a question or want to discuss some aspect of the game there or in the Discussion section. With an exception here or there, this is a really good group. For an online community, I'd say it's well above average.

The OP was just commenting on the traditional online mentality that each poster wants to have 'the last word' insomuch as their opinion holds most [or all] the merit of the discussion... or that there should be no discussion at all.

Gotta agree with Ba8e, its tough to get involved in discussions when the discussees are more worried about "proving" the other posters wrong versus actually talking about the subject. If I were assaulted for my ideas professionally like some folks here assault our playmates (this IS a game, remember?), we would be involving lawyers next.

I've been very happy with the interactions on the boards that I've been a part of. I am not happy reading the almost daily attacks and unfriendly comments that I end up reading. There are a lot of us on here that don't want to see it. Please stop needing to be right.

May I suggest personal attacks be handled via private messages?!? Please????

Thanks!

I look forward to a full inbox. ;)

I, for one, want to hear from more people. Especially from a newer generation of players, so I hope you guys choose to continue posting and commenting. It'd be a shame if we lost new ideas and perspectives because of this stuff.

+1 Haselrig

Everyone, repeat after me....

I, state your name, resolve to resume/begin participating in the forums. They deserve my participation. We have an awesome game. We have an engaged and caring community. And I will participate with love and respect for this awesome game and with empathy for my brothers and sisters because in the presence of true empathy, cruelty cannot exist.

*If anyone is wondering, the above is not sarcastic. I'm a different sort of cat, that's all. What kind of cat?

I've found myself in a few such arguments that you don't want to get involved in, and I understand that. Really, I've found that if someone disagrees with you it is really easy to not get into anything by simply not restating your opinion for the fifteenth time. If your idea or opinion is a good one and others agree with you, they will let the other party know for you. It takes two to argue. Everyone here will probably tell you I'm the last one to be talking about that though... and they are probably right ;)

I hadn't posted anything yet because I really wasn't sure what my reaction was to the initial post. I play other games where the forums are full of trolls and people who seem to be so full of venom that they couldn't say anything nice. That really isn't my perspective of this site, this is not meant as an argumentative post, it is meant to explain why I was kind of shocked and disappointed when I read the initial post. I do agree with Haselrig's comment that it is nice to hear from fresh people, because otherwise we risk the forums just becoming an echo chamber which ultimately would be to the detriment of the game long term.

I do try to monitor the forum as best as possible. There have been a few discussions that have gotten away, but I try to point them in the right direction. The last thing we want is people quitting over hard feelings from forum comments (please keep this in mind everyone).

As a whole, I think most of the discussions on our forum are pretty much on point (compared to a lot of internet forums/comments). I do expect everyone to treat the other users with respect and also keep in mind that we have people of all ages playing the game.

So I can't get into flame wars about Buck Ewing being the greatest catcher of all time with these whippersnappers?

For anyone who's played an online game they really liked that just went dark one day, I'd say this goes for the Admin of a game like this as well. No matter how much you love a hobby, if it becomes a chore you start looking for other things to do.
