Jan 19 2029: A Lot to Explain - by zakis on September 20th, 2016
This is zakis, the owner of the DeKalb Pilgrims, There is a lot to discuss about the team, so let's get right to it.
Firstly, there has been considerable confusion about the manager change. We wish Gavin Bird the best as he continues his stellar managerial career with the Essex Cubs, and while we initially hired Connor Hill to replace him, we quickly replaced Hill with Victor Snell to help the young prospects of the DeKalb Pilgrims develop better.
Secondly, I wanted to make sure everybody was clear about the Pilgrims' plan for the future. The next 2-3 years will be rough, and progress will be hard to find because of our financial state. It is obviously tough for the fan base of the Pilgrims to see players like Daniel Ojeda get released from the team, I assure you that it is for the good of the team long-term. We will struggle over the next few years, but I would argue that the results of this move are already evident. Just last year, the players' salaries were $30M while the minor leaguers costed us $4M. This year so far, we are showing a clear change of philosophy. Our major leaguers now cost us $18.8M (although that figure will definitely change before the year begins), and our minor leaguers, the future of our franchise, cost us $6.1M.
Again, as a Cubs fan, I assure DeKalb fans that the Pilgrims are here to stay. Stay with us, and we will pay you back for your patience. We will regain lost ground, and we will win.
Nov 04 2028: Gavin Bird Fired - by zakis on September 16th, 2016
We have just terminated the contract of one of the best hitter/picher managers in the game. He has done everything we hoped for, but he did not approve of the direction that the team is moving in (see the last press release). Because of this, the DeKalb Pilgrims and Gavin Bird are mutually parting ways. To replace him, we are hiring Connor Hill.
