Sep 25 2019: And the Blue Jays clinch their playoff spot with their 98th win!!!
- by ReekyLeek on September 29th, 2014
What started has a slow year for this newly promoted South Thunder Bay team has turned around and shown just how dominant they truly are. Having battled key injuries early on to their ace Ramon Arroyo and C Paul Shelton, they managed to stay within 5 games in the early stages. With the return of these 2 players STB have not looked back at the competition being nothing else but dominant.
The season didn't go without its hitches. Not having a clear 5th the starting rotation decided to start the season with only 4 starting pitching and it quickly took its toll as all 4 were underperforming. Then the decision came to call up unproven prospect Hector Aleman. Averaging only 5 innings per game he's provided the sparkplug needed for the rotation and giving the extra rest needed to the 4 vets. Another change came behind the plate as the Jays would like to utilize Shelton's range and take care of a hole at 2B for the future. While it hasn't been a seamless transition he's held up his own using his athletic ability.
Aug 09 2019: Blue Jays pitching at it again!!
- by ReekyLeek on September 16th, 2014
After 100 games it is safe to say that the South Thunder Bay pitching has yet again been the forefront of this great team. With great seasons from veterans Ramon Arroyo (1.94 ERA in 167 innings), Russell Friedman (2.32 ERA in 162 innings) and Shigeru Kamira showing a lot of promise (2.31 in 144 innings). With Curtis Krause starting to pitch better of late and Hector Aleman getting his first taste of the big league rounding up the rotation with good numbers for #4 and 5 pitchers. The bullpen has once again been worked with a mash of experienced veteran free agent pickups, Julio Lara / Sean Wynn and Jesus Marrero, joining Albert Reynolds and stud closer Mario Foster (30 saves).
Currently 13 games ahead of 2nd place Muncie, the Blue Jays have yet to lose a series since early June and have simply dominated at times this season. Sticking with a great pitching staff, good defence and timely hitting looks like this might be another playoff bound year for "Doc" Martin's Jays.
Good luck and finish strong, I will return with another article when the Jays clinch their playoff spot or in the unlikely case that another team steps up and clinches.
Jul 09 2019: Blue Jays incredible scoreless streak
- by ReekyLeek on September 8th, 2014
The South Thunder Bay Blue Jays have just conclude a series sweep against Lee's summit behind incredible pitching which hasn't yielding a single run in over 3 games extending over 31 innings. In doing so they have brought their winning streak to 9 games and extending their lead in the western division by 8 games. How long will this incredible pitching feat continue? Tulsa comes into town in the last series before the all-star break to try and slow down this juggernaut.
Oct 20 2018: (Almost) Perfect Arroyo
- by ReekyLeek on July 20th, 2014
In what was the greatest pitching performance of the South Thunder Bay Blue Jays, Ramon Arroyo was clicking on all cylinder allowing only 1 walk in the 8th inning against the Kettering Crusaders. Needing only 96 pitches for the no hitter Arroyo was on cruise control all night, striking out 9 crusaders in the process. Winning his 17th game of the season and bringing down his ERA to a league leading 2.31. This great performance has made it almost impossible for him to lose the title for lowest league ERA.
Sep 22 2018: Magic number is 1
- by ReekyLeek on July 13th, 2014
The incredible and improbable season of the South Thunder Bay Blue Jays is about to become even more miraculous. Needing only a single win in the remaining 26 games to secure their division win they've all but blown through the competition this season. As well as chasing team history, the Blue Jays simply need 6 more victories to pass the 2006 107 win team. Behind stellar pitching and defence and great timely hitting nothing is out of reach for this team. It is safe the say the rebuild is over!!!
