Jul 16 2058: Midseason Changes in Morgan Hill - by cqk328 on February 9th, 2023

We have now reached the halfway point of the Rebels' last season in Morgan Hill, and the team finds themselves sitting 14 games behind the division leading Octopuses. The organization has made some strategical moves and decisions to remain competitive for the second half of the season, but before we get into that, lets congratulate this year's All-Stars.

Byron Walden stole the show despite the West's lethargic offensive performance. Walden finished 3-4 with a double. Speaking of stealing, Craig Bruno added a stolen base for the West squad, as he has done 47 times already this season. Kevin Turpin and Ron O`Neill also earned their first career All-Star selections.

Throughout this season, the Rebels have struggled massively in the starting pitching department. Through 80 games, the top 5 starters have gone 24-31 with an ERA of 4.88. This cannot continue. Morgan Hill has elevated closer Enrique Cordova and reliever Kevin Rainey into starting roles. Xavier Madison will take over the closing duties, while Carl Watson will move to Rainey's spot as the chief middle reliever. The Rebels have also released Mark Lyon, who had struggled heavily this year.

On the offensive side, Morgan Hill unfortunately had to part ways with fan favorite Carson Ledford. While he will be remembered as one of the better players in Morgan Hill history, his price tag was becoming a liability, as well as his offensive performance. The Rebels will be looking to rookies Miguel Bermúdez and Luke Harmon to bolster the back end of the order, and they see these guys as integral parts of the lineup for several years to come.

A 14 game deficit will assuredly be a difficult one to make up for the Rebels. But if they are going to do it, it has to start now. This home series against Yukon could prove itself to be the turning point in the Rebels season...one way or the other.
