Jan 13 2067: Westland Cuts Ties With Numerous Players - by mbrown26 on November 18th, 2024

With the new upcoming season approaching Westland was forced to cut ties with a lot of their players. Seo Jun Ku legendary third baseman and 11 year vet was of the biggest names to go. Raul Hernandez 4 year reliever for Westland was cut due to his declining skill and lack of progress from the past few seasons. Reed Schuster 33 year old reliever/hybrid starter was cut after 4 years with the team showing great seasons in 2064 and 2065 but falling off in '66. Zavala was cut due to declining skill but helped a bit in shoring up the pen for a year going 9-4. Carney the 4 year guy as well was cut leaving gaps open for the Wildcats 1b slot which Robinson and Libby will assume this year. "Although we lost some key guys and its sad to see them, we will be seeing new faces from our minor league system. I can't wait for these guys to get in." said owner Mason Brown. "At the end of the day baseball is a business, you gotta do what you gotta do to win."

Nov 02 2066: D'Angelo Gatlin Wins the Cy Young - by mbrown26 on November 15th, 2024

2066 was a down year for the franchise ending up in relegation and will be getting bumped down for 2067. With some players perhaps leaving the season ended on a sour note. Not for the young stud D'Angelo Gatlin who won his first Cy Young for the organization at the young age of 27. Gatlin was a first round pick for the organization in 2059 and made his first big league appearance as a reliever in 2062. Gatlin was given the nod to start finally in 2064 after a season of relief duties. He struggled that year posting a 4.71 ERA going 9-15. 2065 last year was worse getting moved down into the bullpen after atrocious starts ending the season with a dismal 5.96 ERA. The organization wanted to dump him down to AAA but owner Mason Brown kept him in the bullpen. After continuous success at around the All Star Break, Jordan moved the shining righty into the rotation. The experiment has gone well posting a 2.96 ERA, opponents batting .231 against him, going 13-1 in 9 starts. Gatlin had enough innings to qualify and win the Cy Young Award for III.2. The last pitcher to do this was the aging Garrett Butts, still pitching, in 2062. There's a lot of questions for this staff going into next season, for the pitching but young prospects like Gatlin, Branch, Ocampo, and Marco Benavides look to make an impact next season and for years to come.

Sep 30 2065: Christianson Man of the Hour; Westland Vibes Go Sour - by mbrown26 on August 20th, 2024

Westland dropped another game to the Kailua Donald this time losing 10-4. The Westland bats were subpar on offense and the pitching was even worse. Westland got to it real early getting 11 hits in the first 5.2 against Burge. Rob Bruce got an RBI double to start off, and then later Ramirez’s ground ball single brought across another run. In the 6th the bottom order carried on eventually tying up the score for the Wildcats. Butts’s day was finished after 6 when he allowed 4 off 5 hits striking 6 Donald players. Virgil walked in and gave up a single. Ocampo however came in and let in that inherited run and 2 more runs unfairly giving Virgil the loss. Westland could only get 3 hits after 6. Raul Hernandez let in 3 more and that was a wrap for Westland. Christiansen stood out going 3-4 with 3 runs, 2 home runs and 4 RBIs.

Sep 28 2065: Kailua Continues to Cause Westland Problems; - by mbrown26 on August 20th, 2024

Westland threw out Frank Beaty for the start in today’s game versus Kailua, but unfortunately today was not the day to be pitching for Westland. Beaty came out today with a satisfactory performance going 6 and allowing 3 earning another quality start today. However the Westland offense which has been sensational could do no good to back their starter. Westland was able to tally 7 hits but only 2 came across for runs. Tally in Ocampo and Virgil giving up a combined 3 runs and you’ve got yourself a Westland loss. Standing out among the muck was Alejandro Ramirez who homered once again leading the team in home runs by 6. Tony Heaton provided a spark with a triple today going 2-4 with a run. Heaton, Carrizales, and Ramirez have without a doubt stood out among the offense this season. “Some guys are doing great we just need a little bit more out of our role players if we want to find the light at the end of this tunnel” said Cameron Jordan.

Sep 28 2065: Westland Fumbles Abilene Series; Many Mistakes Made - by mbrown26 on August 20th, 2024

Today Bob Friend made his first return back as a starter for Westland today after spending some time in the pen. His return start was iffy to say the least. Friend was solid through the whole frame until he reached a hiccup in the 6. Friend surrendered numerous doubles, walks, and singles as Abilene uncorked a 4 run inning to take a 4-0 lead. However Friend never got any help as Westland could only get 2, yes; 2 hits all game long. Marco Carrillo went 8.1 innings of flawless execution giving up 2 hits and allowing one measly run to cross home plate. Carrillo’s season hasn’t been excellent by any stretch and yet Westland had no answer. “It’s frustrating to see the offense struggle sometimes against pitchers who aren’t really cream of the crop S tier guys.” said Mason Brown. “I guess that’s how baseball is you just sometimes can’t figure guys out.” Westland will look to get back to regular division play against Kailua. Still in relegation Westland must claw their way out of the trenches.
