Olympia Year In Review
- New Owner: Ben Kozial
- New Manager: Tim Scholl
- 78-102 Overall Record
- 70-90 League Record (V.8)
- Demotion to VI.15
Owner Ben Kozial and Manager Tim Scholl spoke about the season at a press conference on Tuesday. "It was a learning year for both of us," Ben said, "we were both put into new situations where we just worked as well as we could with the tools we had. I think we did a good job setting this team up for the future. We should have a lot of fun and successful seasons ahead of us." Tim Scholl praised the will and commitment of the players. "Lots of guys had career years, despite this being a 'rebuilding' year here in Olympia. Matthews and Wright both had great years on the mound, and Messina did really well at the plate. I really want to congratulate Nick Hacker. He balled out this year, hitting 27 homers and nabbing 63 bases. I'm really excited for next year, and I think most of these guys have the potential to keep getting better." The Mountaineers have a bright future with a lot of young prospects poised to make debuts in the coming years. "I think we did really well in the draft this year," Ben said, "We picked up guys like Rincon, Gosset, Crawford, and Watson, who are going to have a big impact on this team, hopefully really soon." Despite being relegated to Division 6 after finishing 70-90, the Mountaineers certainly seem to be trending up, "Climbing that Mountain", and will be exciting to watch next spring.
