If you've got some, please share 'em: This should prove that leather is mightier than wood. - Fielder Jones, White Sox Manager His quote after his "Hitless Wonders" won the World Series in 1906. I love that and agree with him. But the quote he's probably most known for isn't about baseball at all, "Son, in this life, you don't ever walk by a red dress." That's Buck O'Neil. I'm lucky enough to have been from Kansas City originally. Buck was amazing. Much of KC knows about him because he lived there, but most of the world isn't so fortunate. Do yourself a favor and read "The Soul of Baseball: A Road Trip Through Buck O'Neil's America" by Joe Posnanski. If you don't like it, you will have confirmation that you're a miserable human being. You also could read his autobiography which is another famous quote of his, "I was right on time." |
