Can say that we have a very good team with Miguel Cabrera, Carlos Gonzalez, Pablo Sandoval. But its very dissapointing that MLB doesnt support this event, its a shame that players like Felix Hernandez, Johan Santana or Justin Verlander just couldnt make it because their club. However, I think Venezuela will (finally) win this one :p |

Not sure, this maybe difference for the Japanese players and some of the other teams. Steve |

Seems to me like they really should. | ||

They are US citizens (I believe), but have their own elected government. I guess they have a separate baseball team too. Steve |

That happens because it's a U.S. Commonwealth dependency rather than part of the U.S. proper. The same thing happens with the Virgin Islands and American Samoa, as well as a bunch of territories that are dependencies of other countries but not part of them, like the Cayman Islands (Great Britain) and the Cook Islands (New Zealand). You see it a lot with Pacific and Caribbean islands. It'll be interesting to see what would happen if Puerto Rico becomes a state sometime in the next decade or so (it actually did vote for statehood back in November), because if that happens then its whole national sports infrastructure would have to be folded in with the U.S., unless they were to successfully petition every different sport's governing body for permission to keep competing as a separate entity, like England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland do separate from Great Britain in soccer, and like the Iroquois Confederacy does separate from both the U.S. and Canada in lacrosse. |

They were a perfect 8-0 (still not a lot of games by baseball standards) in the competition. Probably not a surprise considering how many talented players from the Dominican are in the Major Leagues -- but I guess you could say that about several countries. Congratulations to the Dominican Republic! Steve |
