The first 7 games alone had more close/comeback games than I can remember having at this point in BB. Maybe for half a season. First series against Manhattan, the first three games were decided by a total of four runs, with something like 17 total lead-changes (Q: does tying the game count as a lead-change???). Leps never trailed in game 4, but we didn't really pull away until the 9th. So 35/36 innings were close. Similar trend with the Redbirds. Back-to-back doubles to lead off the bottom 9th sent game 1 into extras (Birds won.) Game 2 tied for three innings until Abercrombie hits an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th that ends up being the winner. Then the game 3 tie is broken up by a pair of solo homers from Duran and Rosas, again in the bottom 8th. The next three series (2-1 series losses to Lakeland and Saco, 3 game sweep of Laurel) didn't provide as many nail-biters as Topes/Birds, but the low quality relief pitching from Leps & opponents resulted in a number of +6 run bursts across the final 3 innings of games, mostly from behind. @ Holmes - looks like your two "favorites" are starting to separate from the rest of the pack We'll see what happens this next go-round. Would be fun to see a four-way race for first place. That was my hope for the NL Central this season - until the Brewers ruined it! |

Luckily I was able to make some space and sign him as a FA Currently planning to start the vets in today's cup series but if I can rattle off a couple wins I'll probably start him in games 3 and 4. If not I'll have to work him in during league play this week. I'd say he has a pretty good chance of replacing Lohman sooner or later. I really hate to cut a reigning all-star/all-leaguer of any age, especially during a competitive season. But at 35 he'll have the eye of Sauron on him week to week. |

I already had that issue the last two seasons that almost all of the games we win are slugfests, often with a solid margin, while we lose most of the low-scoring games. We ended up getting demoted with a positive run differential, after actually leading the league in RD (while always being in the cellar win-wise) for most of the season. Manhattan vs. Saco so far: 7 games, 58-47 runs, 3-4 wins. Greenville outscored us, at least. Yes, we have a small ballpark and yes, I'm not exactly defense focused, but neither of that has changed since we were competitive in Legends. Our defense shouldn't be that terrible... But maybe I'm just not good at seeing what makes a good team anymore. Laurel and Lakeland really disappoint me so far. With players like Dunham, Figueroa, Sáenz, Hidalgo and Calhoun, you shouldn't be in last place for long... |

Mini Hot and Cold streaks are the story of 2051. Oops forgot those periodic injury explosions, 4 in one game a while back. Pretty clear at the moment. Three with the Sluggers tomorrow... PS I may go for a name change to the Shamrocks next season. At the moment I have four Reilly/O'Reillys and an O'Leary to boot! Updated Saturday, August 7 2021 @ 4:54:17 pm PDT |

knoxvol Joined: 04/16/2018 Posts: 61 Inactive | Looks like it's becoming a two horse race as we head into interleague Lol not too sure the current trends will hold. I'd say anyone could still make a run at this point. I like that we're much closer than the West. Just look at the run differentials top to bottom: first and last in the West are +86 and -118 respectively, compared to +24 and -45 in the East. Plus Manhattan's +22 RD suggests they are pretty unlucky to be sub .500. A lot of our success so far has come from relatively young/unexpected sources. Rosas is typically an offensive liability at SS and has never hit higher than .262 in a full season, but I think he was leading the league a few days ago. |

But that was me. @BILLY172 - You kicked us out of the CUP today and now I see 5 more games tomorrow! I hope we are not so easy this time. Update - went 2-3 vs Generals, at least wasn't swept.
