Geech Joined: 01/12/2014 Posts: 579 San Luis Obispo Turtles IV.8 | IMO, Angulo will never be more than a backup or at best the weak side of a 1B/DH platoon. Great hitting is always desirable, but that's virtually all he has going for him. Above average slugging is not impressive at 1B, and it's further constrained by his groundball tendencies. His discipline is a relative weakness, so his OBP may never be strong. If he hit left-handed, then you could hope to bet on favorable platoon splits to buoy his slash line, but his minor league numbers seem to suggest traditional RH splits. All of this is borne out in his underwhelming minor league statistics. Minor league numbers aren't perfectly reliable, of course, but I do think they can be a weak signal. I think this build could play if it was paired with good defense at another position like 3B or CF, but not at 1B/DH. |
