Denvy's "Home Run Ron" Payton's fielding error last year in the final World Classic game does indicate that he is perma-benched! His replacement at 3B Casey Applegate from Legends League is having a great Classic though, batting .348. |

Paez finished Nicaragua's stint this year hitting .440 with a HR, 9 RBI, .800 RISP and as always, 0 errors. For his WC career: 42G, .321/6/24, 1 error (2053). Its cool to play the best guys, and with sweeps they are getting rest days, but doesnt the WC have a rotation? Same 3 guys start every day. Updated Thursday, December 29 2022 @ 8:37:57 am PST |

Left on base in game 5 was 24 to 5 in favor of the D.R. making the most of their opportunities. Cuba advances! The most recent WC champion go to the final with the opportunity to defend their title. They did it via three one-run game victories against Columbia. |

Ced Joined: 11/07/2014 Posts: 626 Denver Broncos IV.4 | Dominican Republic defeats defending champs Cuba 3 games to 1 and wins their 5th World Classic! D.R. were 5 for 5 when Birmingham's Gerardo Solis (4-0, 2.61 ERA) was a starting pitcher, and he won game 5 with 6 scoreless innings. Waipahu's Jesús "King" Tejera hit 8 home runs in 18 games, batting 1.076 OPS and 3 POTGs. Cuba could not get timely hits, with a team RISP of .228 in the World Classic. D.R. had .265 in that category. "El Natural" from Grapevine Mustangs with his 132 SI had an OPS of 1.084, but a RISP of just .192. "Colt" Carreras of Bradenton pitched excellent for Cuba from the bullpen with 15 1/3 scoreless innings and 16 strikeouts. LL6 North Charleston's starting pitcher Mateo Cueto had 3 POTGs and a 2.20 ERA, but had a bad outing in game 4 of the series with 5 earned runs. Updated Friday, December 30 2022 @ 11:11:04 am PST |
