admin Joined: 01/27/2010 Posts: 4985 Administrator | Not to give too much away, but hitting implies the ability to hit the pitch whereas slugging implies the ability to drive the ball. So there is a subtle difference between the two. Also, remember that scouting is an inexact science. Steve |

tc_ferdzz Joined: 11/13/2011 Posts: 135 Inactive | i know that slugging refers to more power and hitting is more about hitting average and technique...but you think someone who is a "prolific" slugger would be considered...at the very least...a "decent" hitter... plus...unless you got the upper body strength that looks like you're going to rip out of your jersey...which some MLB'ers do...but you see the others like Bautista out of Toronto that are smaller players...and the reason they hit so many home runs and are such "prolific sluggers"...is because of their mechanics and how good the technical side of their hitting is... like with Bonds...they said that even "IF" he did take steroids to booster his home run numbers...the fact that he got as many as he did is still very impressive because the steroids only help with the strength...but you still have to be a good hitter to get THAT many home runs... but...as i said...it isn't like I'm complaining about what they are saying...this isn't a knock on the game or a bug report...just thought it was a funny scout report and wanted to share... |

However, I think there have been a number of lousy hitters that managed to hit a lot of home runs -- .230 Batting Average, 30 Home Run per season kind of players. Steve |
