32? McCarty was just warmed up. :)

Dinos have different OPS targets for different positions. Tough with older players. Hard to tell if they are just having an bad season or if that is their new reality.

Having a ready replacement will certainly accelerate the timetable.

Not terribly competitive, but Dinos keep an eye on lifetime stats and achievements. We often let a guy hang on a bit longer if it will allow him to climb the team leaderboard in a noteworthy way.

Yeah it sorta depends. For fully/mostly developed players, I want at least a .700 OPS, unless you’re at C or SS, in which case it’s OM if you’re good at D. The thing about a .700 OPS, though, is that you need to either be able to hit for power or run really fast, otherwise that player’s really mid.

For me .700 is a good minimum target. But if my current 2B is hitting .650, I'm certainly not getting rid of the guy in AAA hitting .680.

For OF I really want to see at least .750.

1B and DH should be north of .800.

Really its just the best you can get your hands on for each position. Sometimes that's .650... just hope you don't have too many of those guys.

I like a high OPS just like the next person, but I have found it overvalues slugging.

i.e. I consider Hodsons 2054 season .781 OPS (.304/7/64;.348 OBP; 59/76 SB) to be more valuable than Arriaga's .835 (.266/13/71;.365 OBP). One caveat is Hodson has 200 more AB. But Arriaga cant hit LHP too well and Hodson hits both.

Overall my team had a 2054 OPS of .766 which I am very happy with.

I think airriana with his high hit high pd (enough to put him 100 obp over his ba) along with pow gives you the perfect lead off hitter. Hodson high bat and high bc is a pure hitter and maybe a low power clean up hitter. I don't think one is better than the other in the right role they are both good ballplayers.

Ariana is over 2. In power where Hodson is avg at 1.5.

Math error sorry. Arriaga is ISO 2.04 Hodson is Iso 1.3. Your ballpark punishes power hitters so makes it harder on Arriaga

Possibly the guy with the highest OBP should be hitting lead-off, but I like stolen bases from the leadoff position. Arriaga is only 62% on that. I need at least 70% and preferably 75%. I have 3 other guys within 2 points of Arriaga's .365 OBP, but they dont have any speed either.

Not sure there is any park configuration that doesnt punish/reward home team and opponents equally. Perhaps if I had a team on one-sided right-handed power hitters and made a short left-field wall (since clearly most teams load up on lefties because most pitchers are right-handed) I could do something...Arriaga with his 13 POW and .9 FB has some power of course but its not dramatic.

ISO is SLG-AVG.
835 OPS - 365 OBP = 470 SLG
470-266 =204
His # tell a diff story than 13 pow shows.idk maybe his speed gives him doubles or triples.

I think I took the discussion of OPS off track. My apologies.

I think it's generally accepted that it does overvalue slugging. Bill James suggested multiplying SLG times OBP instead of adding them. In that formulation, someone with .350 OBP and .450 SLG multiplies out to .158. Someone with .300 OBP and .500 SLG multiplies out to .150, so the first player is considered more valuable.

In Moneyball, I think Paul DePodesta expresses the belief that OBP is even more relatively valuable than that.
