But my team became a good opportunity to study managerial effect, when I made the following move after the 2046 season: Fired manager Saenz (8 defensive rating) Hired manager Gonzales (20 defensive rating) It's a 12 point swing, so I thought I'd look at how that affected my team this year. Luckily the vast majority of my roster was the same both seasons, so there are some decent points of comparison. Team FP% 2046: .985 2047: .990 (+.05) Team double plays: 2046: 274 2047: 289 (+15) ^ Used same SS, 1B both seasons. A little more variance at 2B, but not much. My pitching stayed exactly the same, so shouldn't be noise due to GB/FB ratios changing. Team CS%: 2046: 37.9% -- 47 caught, 77 allowed 2047: 37.1% -- 56 caught, 95 allowed ^ Went from a 20 arm C in 2046 to a 17 arm C in 2047 Team errors: 2046: 88 2047: 56 (-32) Team passed balls: 2046: 11 2047: 16 (+5) Team outfield assists: 2046: 37 2047: 24 (-13) ^ This one can be attributed to cutting my 20 arm RF between seasons Looking at some individual defenders: SS Guzman 2046: .985 FP%, 67 DP, 10 E (152 games) 2047: .991 FP%, 69 DP, 6 E (147 games) 1B Hurtado 2046: .996 FP%, 75 DP, 5 E (123 games) 2047: .997 FP%, 90 DP, 4 E (146 games) 2B Gallo 2046: .961 FP%, 42 DP, 17 E (83 games) 2047: .982 FP%, 57 DP, 10 E (120 games) Conclusion: I'm not sure how helpful this is, or that any sweeping conclusions can be made, but maybe there are a few things I'd say: 1. A manager's defensive rating effects FP% 2. A manager's defensive rating effects CS% I think that may have been obvious before. Also: 3. No evidence from this that manager defensive rating gives boost to arm (aside from CS%) or range Updated Saturday, November 14 2020 @ 11:50:28 am PST |

You would have to look at your Pitching staff to see any effect on Range. Fewer hits may indicate greater Range. But interesting data point. You wouldn't expect a 1B FP% to change since they are mostly just catching straight throws. Its interesting that the 2B improved more than the SS. May indicate diminishing returns for players who are already very good defensively. |
