I took advantage of the new algorithm to set my low-BA players to "++" in bunts. It now happens regularly they bunt with one out and man on second. It doesn't make much sense: with a man on 3rd with 2outs, you need a single to score. A man on 2nd should score on a single anyway. In this situation the sacrifice doesn't improve the chance to score even a single run, unlike bunting with no outs to move the man from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd. Maybe it's just the double+ setting, I don't know. |

admin Joined: 01/27/2010 Posts: 4985 Administrator | I see what you’re saying. I think the game engine needs to place more weight on the location of the base runner. Ideally, you’d probably only bunt with one out if the winning or tying run is at first base or maybe on a suicide squeeze play. I think the engine has always operated that way, but the frequency of bunting has been so small, it almost never happened before. Steve |
