Player salaries are based on their skill levels? Do salaries go up every time there is a skill pop? Or only at the end of the season? What is the highest salaried player in the league?

Sorry to put the pressure on with this question, but if you had to guess when the Finances test would be done and salaries will mean something, what would that guess be?

When that does happen, will teams have a salary cap, or be able to spend what they can afford to spend based on their finances?

Is a player with a salary of $4M automatically better than a player with a salary of $2M?

What can cause a player's salary to go down? I notice some players have higher salaries in past seasons than they do this season, yet they appear to still be on the way up, not on the decline, in skills.

Sorry…I think I overlooked your question.

Player salaries are based on past performance and what level of competition that was at (hitting .300 in league VI.6 isn’t the same as II.5). They are re-computed every off-season. I’m not sure what the highest player salary is currently, but top division salaries can surpass $5M per season.

I’m kind of waiting to see if the current financial model is balanced. Before there we too many lower league teams selling their top talent to survive financially – this flooded the free agent pool with too much talent.

Not necessarily, since salary is a product of past performance and league level. Additionally, older players may have salaries that exceed their value as their skills decline.

Players’ salaries drop when their production and/or playing time has dropped. Additionally, there was a change in the salary calculation a few seasons ago that caused most highly paid player to take a pay cut.
