In his history he's even got a couple 90 steal seasons! (Of course I realize his speed has probably dropped somewhat since then). Anyway, the second most steals on my team is a guy with 8, but caught 12 times (14 speed). And a one of my players with 15 speed had all of 1 stolen base last season. (740 plate appearances, so plenty of chances). I guess I'm wondering if speed isn't the main thing as far as stealing bases goes? & if there's more to steals than just player speed & the management settings? Because over the past couple weeks, I'd noticed a few free agents with near max speed have very low stolen base totals. Yet others with similar speed have really high stolen base totals. (If they were all on bot teams, management settings don't come into play?). |

Additionally, pitcher and catchers can make it harder or easier to steal bases. Management setting and position in the batting order can also affect the number of stolen base attempts. BTW, Ron Silva has 11 speed now, but he’s also 33. So he probably had better speed earlier in his career and then it began to decline when he hit 30 and so did his stolen bases totals. Steve |
