I'm interested in knowing some opinions here, seeing as I have quite a few starters who are 32 and up and beginning to decline.

When does the salary hit become to high for y'all if you have a declining player? Is it more related to performance, or do they just become too risky error-wise over time?

Is it different depending in position? (F.e. is it different to shell out 1.7 mill each for 2 33-year old pitchers than 1.9 mill for a 32-year old DH)

I would like to just know some opinions in this generally, but I can provide some specific examples if that helps visualise things.

If you can find a similar guy for 1.5 mill, why hold on to the 3.5 miller?

Or maybe you have a young Major leaguer you think is ready to make the jump, so you let the declining guy go and put your younger guy in.

Too much salary, you go bankrupt.
Too much risk on youth, you lose games.
