My manager brings the outfield in with a runner on second base and it's tied in the bottom of the ninth or bottom of the inning in extra innings. Personally, I wouldn't do that. I don't mind if the runner tags and goes to third on a long flyout, as long as we get the out. If the runner is on THIRD and there are less than two outs, then yeah, bring 'em in. |

The reason to bring the OF in with a runner on 2B is to give a better chance of throwing out the runner on a single. With respect to game mechanics, bringing the OF in likely: - reduces the chances of a runner on 2B trying for home on a single - increases the chances of throwing out a runner who does try - increases the chances of giving up an extra base hit What I wonder about is whether it increases the chances of getting a hit, or if those stay the same. I would think they stay the same, but just a guess. |
