He is place in lineup as backup to those two positions. Edge starts at 2B and has pinch hit for set at L9/R7 Alcantar at SS set at L7/R7 Briggs has yet to pinch hit for either of them... even with this scenario: Bottom 12th: Allen Romano comes in to pitch. Crowe hits a single to center field. Crowe steals second base. Alcantar draws a walk. Edge hits a triple to right field. Crowe comes in to score. Alcantar comes in to score. Yes it turned out fine... but twice missed a chance to pinch hit with a better batter in clutch extra innings. Updated Thursday, February 20 2020 @ 3:45:57 pm PST |

Pinch hitter check is run before each batter (5th inning and beyond): If Not Too Earlier to pinch hit for current hitter Position Upgrade: Check bench players; evaluating overall and defensive value for current hitter's position Determine best overall player from the bench (whose defensive value is above some minimum) If bench player value is greater than current hitter + some margin Replace current hitter If 7th inning and beyond Determine the criticality of the hitting situation based on inning, outs & score If current hitter's offensive value exceeds the minimum value determined by the criticality of the hitting situation Keep current hitter Pinch Hitter: Check bench players; evaluating offensive value only Determine best offensive player from the bench If bench player value is greater than current hitter + some margin Replace current hitter 1. Certainly Edge's offense values do not meet the minimum... if it does, then that number needs changed for higher leagues. 2. Would it not be better in late innings to compare batter offensive values to bench player offensive values? 3. We need more control here. Argh. |
