Guys who can contribute on O, D, and the basepaths. Guys with low ratings are either: - defensively limited - old for their placement - low SI for their age/placement So in my view the ratings do a pretty good job of identifying low risk (high rating) and high risk players. They shouldn't be used as a primary evaluation tool, but if a guy has a lower rating than you expect, there is likely a red flag of some sort on the player.
