michaeltodd2 Joined: 02/20/2018 Posts: 325 Paradise Valley Cubs II.2	I have a bunch of left handed fielders in my minors. I have too many outfielders and 1st baseman already, so my question is, how bad is it, or how substantial is the penalty, if i play some left handed Catchers, 2nd base, 3rd base and shortstops? Is that a severe no no, or just a small penalty? Thank you!

However, I have also heard that a lefty thrower at 2b, 3b, or ss is severely penalized (some have said there's sort of an artificial "cap" of .900 fielding percentage on them). Personally, I wouldn't touch a lefty throwing 2b, 3b, or ss. But I am interested in finding out how a lefty throwing catcher will do, properly trained and developed. I've heard he can do fine.

Dan6176 Joined: 04/30/2016 Posts: 254 Inactive	I'm not sure if a left throwing 2b, 3b, or ss would have a lower fielding pct or if they would be slower fielding the ball and allowing more infield singles. A lefty catcher might allow more sb and have a lower cs pct.

Seca Joined: 05/05/2014 Posts: 5201 Waterloo Dinosaurs Legends	Take a look at this guy's defensive record and see if you can guess when the left-hand-throw penalty tweak was done. It's a brutal penalty for middle infielders.

Seca Joined: 05/05/2014 Posts: 5201 Waterloo Dinosaurs Legends	Hehe. His partner in crime was Strickland. Also low range LHT middle infield. (Also shows the LHT change, but not as well as Mata) Lost a playoff series to Spokane in 2019. Lots of things I can't remember these days. That I won't forget.
