It was 33%, 32/97

And I know defense is super important, one look at my ERA to FIP ratio tells me that! ;-)

I just read somewhere that 15 arm was the baseline catcher build, I was going off of that.

15 arm is baseline. I say 17 because you have the personnel to easily field a 17 arm catcher, as do I. You can go below the baseline and still find success, but if you run into a good baserunning team (see my team for example) they will absolutely make you regret playing offense over defense at C. 17-18 is what I've seen many long time owners call elite at a skill (and it is evidenced by it being the cut off of "amazing fielding", "unhittable fastball", "exceptional movement", "throw all day", "great hitter", and "prolific slugger").

There is variation with ratings, so you should always consider that it could be off by a couple points. That's why its worth looking at the actual CS%. In my experience, guys below 16 Arm don't tend to throw out a lot of runners.

If the guy is a beast at the plate like "Mad Dog" Moody, well sometimes you have to work with what you have. But I also shoot for 17 Arm at catcher.

Please ignore the 16 Arm guy I am training at catcher in my minors, LOL.

Am I right that my catcher would be best at SS? His range is crazy for a catcher. I will probably keep him behind the plate, but training with another guy at SS just because.

Thanks for feedback. I have been reading up a bit lately and finally discovered the bookmark tool.

That is definitely SS material, Tex; if he were mine, I’d be training him at short without even considering catcher as an option. Catchers are a helluva lot easier to find than shortstops, after all.

Yes, he is training at SS and playing Spring training at SS. Will that (spring training at SS) help speed his transition along?

Yes, every little bit of experience at the position will help, and that includes spring training.

Either SS or 3B. I don't think you could go wrong with either. Just depends on what the rest of your minors looks like.

Nothing wrong with him playing at catcher either once he hits the majors. Nice to have the flexibility.

Depending on what your roster looks like you could platoon him at catcher and shortstop. Never done that combination, but I have done C and 3B.

I've got a couple C/3Bs. And I am training up a C/SS right now.
