Does playing a player at a position during spring training that they won't have any long-term value at hurt their development? That's a very confusing sentence, I know. I'll try to explain.

Julian Gonzalez

He is quite a nice young player, and will be my future at 3B. I'm going to also play him in the OF during injuries, since I could move him there full-time as well. But here's my question. I'm playing him at catcher during spring training, because I don't have any catcher prospects. He does have a "c" rating, so that's good. But will this hurt his growth at 3B?

The short answer is no. It won't hurt him at 3B but it won't help him at 3B either. During spring training, it is usually the case that some players will have to play out of position.
