The prospect ranking is mostly for fun.

As far as I can tell, it's calculated based primarily on age, potential, and current SI. It does not take into account potential for specific skills. It's fun to look at top ranked prospects in the game because some of them are absurdly good, but having a low rating does not mean a player is bad. It's more of a judgement call.

I have a player: age:16 potencial:14 Ranking:72 ETA:2035

What does that mean?

Age:16 -> Castillo has been alive for 16+ years

Potential:14 -> This player has a potential score of 14 (fully developed SI range of 112 - 119)

Ranking:72 -> The computer algorithm gave him this ranking score. Probably a bit high given his poor control, but he looks pretty nice other than that. 14 POT is really good for a pitcher, but control is pretty important.

ETA:2035 -> The computer is making a SWAG that this player will be ready for the majors in 2035. This can be off by a couple years in either direction.
