Mec, you identified it in your last question. Ordonez isn't reaching one of his limits, and if you don't have someone set as the Closer in save situations then the game will not automatically switch out the pitcher. You have a couple options, 1) lower all their pitch limits if you want them all to come in more often (imperfect but get a gauge of how many pitches it usually takes one of them to get through an inning without too many problems), 2) set one as the closer (he will then come in every time there is a save situation in his first available inning).

Thank you, Newt.
Anyway I'm still puzzled in general by the usage of Ordonez.
When one nominate a LOOGY, he expects he to come in against LHs..
Otherwise he's useless, or even worse.

It probably brought in Ordonez because it was a setup situation and Ordonez set as your left handed set up man was the only one available in the 7th inning. Because he wasn't hitting any of his limits while in there, he wasn't being taken out for another set up man. My suggestion would be to flip the guy you have set to come in in the 8th inning with Ordonez who is set for the 7th if you don't want Ordonez to see more action.

I've lowered pitch count and reshaped other things.

http://brokenbat.org/game/1801674
0.3 IP + 1 IP + 0.6 IP
7 RHH, 1 LHH

I have a ROOGY (Carranza) as set as Ordonez. Why Ordonez over him?
He has second worst "same-handed-AB"/"opp-handed-AB" ratio on my team (passed only by an other LH reliever, Murillo).
It doesn't have any sense setting left handed relievers if they come in to face mostly RHH.
I would understand if it's me, or the engine has to be fixed.

Because it looks at the next guy up to bat, not the 1-8 hitters after him. Thus the need to set the pitch count to 0 if you really want him to be a Left Handed One Out Guy. Bolding and underline added to emphasize key words in the acronym. I agree the management is far from perfect, but it also is one of the few predictable things about the match engine.

Edit: In the example you gave Tate (a left handed hitter) was the next scheduled hitter, but he was pinch hit for as soon as Ordonez came in to pitch, thus it had the desired effect of the purpose of a LOOGY (to remove the left handed hitters from the lineup by getting them pinch hit for).

Ok, it sounds reasonable.
Maybe I'm going to test the 0-pitch-count on Ordonez. It seems the only serviceable way to use him without getting pounded by RHH.
Thank you again, Newt.

For the record. I have had Grasso set as LHS and 0 pitch count all season. First inning is the 7th, the exact definition as a left handed specialist and yet...his season totals are...

18/67 vs RHB

0/10 vs LHB

Yeah he does great against LHB. But there is no setting to make sure that is what he mainly faces.

This makes absolutely no sense at all.

I understand your frustration, but I'm guessing the opposition is pinch hitting when your LHS comes in. This isn't unrealistic.

The issue I have is the reverse situation--when a pinch hitter comes in to face the guy who has been pitching and the defensive team NEVER counters with a pitching substitution. That's when the LHS should be coming in (or the RHS). Unfortunately the game engine doesn't operate that way.

This.

Also guessing that the game left your LHS in a few times longer than the 0 pitch count when you were out of options in the bullpen.

Mike and Newt

I think you are both pretty spot on. I would prefer Grasso to come in AFTER they PH with a LHB. And due to my limited pitching staff, Grasso's numbers against RHB are inflated.
