So I managed to sign this player the other day. I think he could be good with his high potential. However, his range is massive. Should that be a concern for me?

Am I right in assuming that the best pitcher will have massive pitching stats with low fielding stats?

Just speaking for myself, I like to have my pitcher's range and arm add up to less than 25 (the lower the better, but draft picks rarely fit exactly what you want), so if you were to go by that, he should be fine.

If you take an average increase of 1 fielding per seasons over 6 seasons of development (20-24 in the minors, 25-26 in the majors), then De Fazio hits 10-15-5 defense, which is weighted at 15 SI against his 14 potential. The average endpoint of a 14 potential is 116. 116-15 = 101, 101/1.25 = 80.8 SI that can be dedicated to the pitching ratings, which means if he was uniform across all pitching ratings he would be in the ballpark of 16 SI per rating. That'd be a pretty good pitcher to have on your team.

The biggest concern is his small p, it looks like he cant decide on his career path.

The other tick against him is his uselessly high stamina, overall with 14 POT and very good ratings for both velocity and movement he'll be a very good pitcher. Really that range isn't too bad considering his super low arm strength.

As an aside, I still haven't figured out why its ok for a fastball pitcher to have pathetic Arm Strength...

Because they don't want to tear a hole in the 1B glove, so they throw a changeup.

I've seen many a MLB pitcher who could throw upper 90s that would make the weakest looking tosses over to 1st
