The 3rd guy is the only one of the three who looks like he COULD ever be good. The top two look exactly like a hundred guys in free agency who are unsigned because they just can't cut it against decent competition. The control report is concerning, however he could fill out his other skills quite nicely with that report.

P cut?

Have 3 P making big salaries

Soto
Murakami
Martelli

I could go a couple of ways:
A. Cut Murakami, Keep Martelli and Soto
B. Cut Martelli and Murakami (look for a new closer) and keep Soto?

Thanks

So... Given the two options you've provided, you are really just asking if you should cut Martelli?

Martelli has preformed pretty well for you so far. They are all old and none of them will likely translate well into the higher leagues, so I'd say make the choice based on finances and whether or not you'll need him to promote to the next level this year.

another option is to cut Martelli and make Brewer the closer. anything over 2, I hesitate because of the 11 POT (they can be hot one day/ cold the next day)

have a couple minor player recommended

Craig

I have two 25 yo in the minors
Olivia

Brambilla

I could cut Sparks and maybe a OF

The problem I may have is I lead the Division and do not want to tinker with the lineup to much.

Any suggestions are encouraged.

Thanks

Regarding position players, I generally focus on their defense. As long as they can handle their own (at least small letter) with decent defensive stats (depending on position), they´ll get the nod.

While having rookie players may present some setbacks, it's a necessary evil. If that player will one day be a starter, the veteran is relegated to backup duty. In a perfect world you should stagger call ups, no more than 2 per season.

As for pitchers, I usually like giving a rookie a starter's role and hope my bullpen can bail them out. If not, there are 160 games in a season and a few bad starts shouldn't hurt if you're truly in contention for promotion.

Just my thoughts on the matter, everything boils down to your team's current status and outlook. No point in making a push for promotion when there are not heir apparents lined up.

@bsmall84 - I have a player very similar to Craig in Hastings. He got the call a few weeks back, so I promoted him.

Problem for me is that my division is tight - I'm only 8 games off first place, but I'm also in a tie for 5th (I'm 4th and with a much better RD).

I haven't the courage to give my youngsters AB unless injuries strike, and the problem for Hastings as a righty 1B is that 2B is probably his best position and (1) he doesn't have any eligibility there, and (2) my starter Dorsey is still just 29 and is one of my best hitters.

I think the way to do it from what I've seen is to give your youngsters either an inning or three at the beginning OR end of a game, or just give him a start here or there. But like I say, when every AB counts I'm reluctant to let it happen.

I'd be interested to hear more thoughts from some of the vets.

If you're trying to promote or avoid relegation, I look at it as a clutch time and you need your best players. You could keep Sparks and put Craig, Olivia, and Brambilla on the bench.

I don't put much trust into rookies unless they're very good from the start and like to put them on the bench.

I look at it two ways when you shouldn't play rookies:

1. If you're about 10 games behind first place.

2. If you're trying to avoid relegation.

The situations that would be recommended to play rookies are:

1. If you've clinched the division.

2. Can't catch the first place leader.

3. You know you're going to relegate.

Overall, I would keep all of them.

Picked up two pricey veterans off waivers

Salinas

I probably will cut a 12 pot P Ma

Which of the two P off waivers should I keep

Thanks

Honestly, I wouldn't either of them because their career ERA is pretty high and Cantu looks like he could play 3B/SS with the defense he has.

If you want to keep them, you should put them in a right hand/left hand specialist role with low hooks and low pitch counts.
