I have a pitcher (Marino) with a hook setting of 4.
He gave up 8 walks and two runs in 2+ innings yesterday. Am I not understanding hook? Is it just runs that count? (It says runners and runs)

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure its just the base runners in the inning he is currently in so:

6th inning: 0 runs, 0 runners < 4
7th inning: 0 runs, 2 runners < 4
8th inning: 0 runs, 1 runner < 4
9th inning: 2 runs, 3 runners on after walking in the second run (2+3 = 5 > 4)

Walked 5 guys in a row! So after walking the first four batters he could have been hooked, but its not absolute. Your manager "Happy" has 5 patience. That means he is slow to hook guys. You probably want to set a lower hook to make up for your manager's patience.

Hook condition is Total Runs + Base Runners > Hook

Hook is set at 4.

Top 9th: Rochester
Marino takes the mound to pitch.
Colon draws a walk.
TR(0) + BR(1) = 1
Bernal draws a walk. TR(0) + BR(2) = 2
Wright draws a walk. TR(0) + BR(3) =3
Williamson draws a walk. Colon comes in to score. TR(1) + BR(3) = 4, note: not > 4, no hook.
O`Neill lines out to second base.
Chandler draws a walk. Bernal comes in to score.
TR(2) + BR(3) = 5, > 4, pitcher hooked
Keller comes in to pitch.

I don't think manager patience has much influence in the ME at present. Pitcher hook follows the conditions strictly, so long as there is a pitcher available to come in.
