I have found some standards for candidates/HOFers.

Batters
1800+ H
.800+ OPS

Pitchers are a little more complicated. Here are my standards for starters and relievers.

Starters
Sub-3.50 ERA
100+ W
Winning Record

Releivers
100+ SV or HLD
Sub-3.50 ERA

Well. It's ambitious. It'd be tough. Lots of fun to think about.

However, not all League Levels are the same. Here is an example:

http://brokenbat.org/player/165568

Tore up LLV and LLVI pitching, right?

Then in Legends League, he performs with .306 BA and .814 OPS over three seasons. 1,888 career hits. Has some other awards and accolades on his player card to be considered.

So is Sal "Hits" Burt one of the best ever?

"Hell if I know, dude."

Qualifies based on your criteria, right? But what if he had never been in Legends and/or had never left the lowbie leagues? The competition is just different in so many aspects that it becomes difficult to compare players.

You'd have lots of ferocious debate with a Hall of Fame, which is what makes the forum great.

Damn, that’s a good point! The league structure does make it hard, but it is my belief that we have to accept it. Burt did tear up LLVI and LLV, but he also wasn’t too bad as an aging, declining star in Legends. AVG declines do seem to be real, as my team, before I came along, made it to the Legends League for a season but had a .233 AVG IN LLII when they got promoted. I just don’t know. Maybe other people should chime in. And speaking of Legends, the guy who did that was Ainsoph. He was around forever, it seems, and the only long-serving owner. If I complete this season, I will be tied for 2nd most years on the job (2).

Whatever. Let’s make it 2,000 hits and 150 wins. That will really make it exclusive.

Imo maybe voting should be allowed to last all season with many reminders about the link?

I'm not against picking up the pace until we get to players who actually played while current owners were active. Hard to have debates about guys from the earliest eras of the game.

At this point, we have lots of teams to cover, so we just need to go quickly.
