Dropping a great player in his prime is a heart-wrenching thing to have to do. You can't trade him, or anyone, and this would just allow for a another layer to the game while maybe adding some useful free agents as well.

If he is in his prime, why are you dropping him?

I'm sure if you put on your thinking cap you can come up with at least 3 reasons. Make room for the next wave...Salary...*beep*y season..Defenfence sucks...

Those sound like arguments against the guy being a "great player". If you dropped him because he was over priced, bad in the field, or just bad overall, I don't see why you should be rewarded? The reward was getting rid of deadwood on your team and making the team perform better in the long run.

My issue is that this is just a rich get richer idea. If you are lucky enough to pick up a great player, the reward is having him on the team. I don't see why your luck should then get rewarded again when you drop him off the team. Definitely seems like double dipping.
