Decisions are made on a batter-by-batter, pitcher-by-pitcher case. I guess we could probably say no intentional walks for the first batter a pitcher faces -- is that the right solution though? If so, do the free pass before changing pitchers. Granted, the pitcher being replaced might not have the free pass tickbox checked, which would make it possible to bring in a reliever who does have it checked, which would still result in a reliever walking the first batter faced. Maybe do both. I’m also half-tempted to suggest that if a non-IBB pitcher would be replaced by an IBB pitcher in a situation where the IBB pitcher would issue a free pass, to have the non-IBB pitcher override the setting and walk the batter intentionally anyway. I can already see the bug reports on that coming in, though… |

In other words, if the opponent counters with a pinch hitter, regular AI applies. If there isn't a PH, no free pass is ever issued.

Personally I don't think its a huge deal if I lose my LHS for one game because this particular situation happened. Not as bad as having my LHS forced to pitch to a RHB who replaces the first LHB he was supposed to face.

As I explained above, that wouldn't happen with my suggestion. If a pinch hitter comes in as the first batter the new pitcher faces, regular AI applies. However, if there isn't a pinch hitter as the first batter faced, the new pitcher never intentionally walks the first guy. |

Pitching team doesn't like the match-up with pitcher A against batter X, so they bring in pitcher B. The hitting team doesn't like that match-up, so they pinch hit with batter Y. The pitching team now evaluates the new match-up, including considering an intentional walk. Updated Friday, December 15 2017 @ 5:05:07 pm PST |

MAtchup is the key to make the odds to favor you so would be nice to have a management setting to use the specialist against the key spot in opponent lineup. Not against lineup#7-9. And in that case, not only did you potentially waste you LHS, your LHS pitched against a batter they were poorly matched against. Thus worse than losing your LHS after an intentional walk, and much more common. Updated Saturday, December 16 2017 @ 6:49:21 am PST |
