It would be neat if managers gave a bonus to playing style--like a manager that helped develop and facilitate power hitting, or a manager that improved/developed base running, or bonuses to pitching, lefties, etc. Teams would have to track down the right manager that facilitated their team style and meshed with their management decisions. It would help to differentiate managers and teams.

Yes, I must admit, I would like manager to play a more important role in the game than they currently do. There have just been higher priority things to implement and the manager portion of the game has languished a bit.

If you have specific suggestion, let me know.

Both the training page and the management page already give enough options for playing style.

Transferring those options to the managers would serve only to transform the manager market into the same race that exists in the free agent market where the most active players dominate. No, thank you.

not if you make a lot of managers and don't necessarily make any better...just different...

the "alleged" shortcomings of the free agency is because we all want the best 13 pitchers and the best 17 players...where with a manager...you can only have 1...so if there is plenty available...you shouldn't have a huge issue with losing the Manager you want cause there could easily be another one like him waiting...

if you make most managers equal...just different...then also you won't have people complaining that they can't get the best manager...because there isn't necessarily "the best" manager...just "the best for you" manager...the one that fits your style...as was previously mentioned...

Usually in this type of game, people figure out which type of manager is the best and then everyone follows lead and races for that type of manager, and if there were plenty of those managers available for everyone, what would be the point? Might as well use the options in the training and management pages and leave things as they are.

Besides there are so many other changes that could help this game so much more, like expanded statistics against lefties and righties, batters and pitchers. Performances in last series, last week, last month, just to name a few.

but if no manager is decidedly better...you're not gonna have that go to manager...for example...you have a manager that gives a boost to fielding...if every team got him...it'd just be a more defensive league...but if you are lacking on offense and want to balance your team...or just want to be overly powerful on offense...you get the right manager but you're defense will suffer...making a manager a double edged sword...you improve one part of you team...but ignore another...so it's not so much that going for manager A over manager B will be the best choice in the game...but the best choice for your team...

Those boosts you are referring to are options in the training page. Use them and leave managers as they are. They don't need to be changed and there is nothing to gain from messing with them.
